GM makes changes to powertrain controls

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/139130.html

Anybody have any more info on this?

It seems to me that this will make it easier for the aftermarket to program GM cars in the future.

If i'm reading right, one program like LS1edit could possibly be made to be used on all GM cars in the future.

Re: GM makes changes to powertrain controls

It is just a move to commonality, so that there is a common set of controllers and software used across the product range.

It used to be that there were different, unrelated software sets used, depending on where the engine came from (Flint 3800 V6s, Lansing four cylinders, etc.). Now they are using a common software set to control all the newer engines, and they are consolidating to a smaller number of controllers to house the software. Just a streamlining effort, really.

Re: GM makes changes to powertrain controls

sounds good. Quicker development times and less individual things to manufacture will help keep costs down. GM really needs to think of ways to reduce costs around the board (and that doesnt mean layoffs) that means less R&D time, more effecient manufacturing, etc. If they dont do that they will continue to lose money
