GM looking at hard times
Re: GM looking at hard times
i'm not a huge fan of the UAW ... however, the UAW isn't doing anything that management didn't agree to. the UAW was allowed to bend GM over, they didn't do it forcefully.
Re: GM looking at hard times
Okay, let's turn this into a productive thread. I am amazed how GM can lose so much money recently. Fiat, a couple of billion. Hell, selling Subaru shares is gonna result in them losing 800 million or so. Now they might be hit with 4-6 billion for Delphi?
What other ****e is out there that might end up costing GM billions over the next few years?

Re: GM looking at hard times
The consumers wanted SUV's/trucks, so GM geared up to make them, and were making out alright. When the market took a shift from SUV to econobox, GM couldn't just pull off the suv's and replace them with cobalts, etc.
GM/Ford/etc have most of their capital tied up into their CARS that are on the lots, plants that produce them, and in financing. They get their capital back when ppl make their car payments (and not declaring backruptcy), and by moving cars from the lot to the owners garage. For GM to make a shift, it's going to be a long process of convincing ppl to buy whats out there now, and reinvesting in new car development.

People are lining up for hybrids? There has only been 131067 sold between all 4 models out there this year so far. ****, Honda has sold more minvans (133,639), then all the hybrids let alone what Toyota has sold (81,042) this year.
350Z, when was the last time you were on a dealers floor looking at the brand NEW models out right now? There is a HUGE improvement over the models they replaced, whether it be a remodel or brand new from the ground up. You need to get out of those Toyota, Honda, and Nissian dealers and look around.
I find it funny that Toyota and Honda have been the for-runners in hybrid tech, but who has done all the work on fuel call cars? Did I hear someone say GM? FWIW, GM has a ad, forgot where I saw it, that they will be SELLING a fuel cell car by 2010. Should be interesting to see how few people will be buying hybrids then. Did anyone ever stop and think that there might be a reason GM doesn't have a hybrid car?
If Toyota is doing so great is the model to follow, why is Chrysler sold more cars this year then Toyota? BTW, that doesn't include MB car sales. 1,790,672 vs 1,495,537 Toyota is not the Big second they are the Big 4th. GM has sold almost twice as many cars as Toyota and Lexus combined this year.
