Re: GM lags behind in booming sport wagon segment.

The Lambda-based sport wagons will be wide, have carlike features and emphasize comfort. A big V-8 with cylinder deactivation will be offered, along with all-wheel drive and GM's new six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicles will target buyers of Lexus, Infiniti and Lincoln. Fuel economy will be better than that of full-sized SUVs.
I think these vehicles (if styled and priced right) will be a huge hit. I'd glad to see GMC getting a product that Chevrolet doesn't already have.

Is "lagging behind" not a GM trademark?

I think they'd be a hit also.

One big, fat, glaring hole in GM's current line up, is a crossover with a third row. Think about it! If you want a third row from GM, you have your choice of a minivan or truck. GM has nothing to compare with Pacifica or Freestyle.

And really, I'm not so sure that GM even understands this segment. I was reading somewhere that the S3X would have a third row overseas but not in NA. Huh!? The reason given was that American adults would find the third row alittle tight on leg room.

NEWSFLASH TO GM:

People looking to buy crossovers with 3rd rows have kids. Kids which are generally smaller dimensionally than adults. These kids who are smaller than adults would theoritically sit in that third row. The kids are the reason that they shop a vehicle with a third row. How do they not get that?

Re: GM lags behind in booming sport wagon segment.

I just wanted to say that the author of the article missed GM's biggest sport wagon player, the Malibu MAXX. It is probably selling above expectations and it the SAAB 9-3 sport wagon is due in the fall.

Between the HHR, Nox, MAXX, 9-3 wagon, Vue, Rendevous, and now dead Aztek I think GM has had quite a few players in the segment up till now and the Lambda vehicles will only continue to grow their share, in this segment.

edit:

Z284ever I think you missed that GM has 3rd row vehicles, true that most are SUVs, but the Suburban, EXT GMT360s, and Rendevous all feature the 3rd row as do the CSVs so GM has the vehicles, and probably more of them than most other manufacturers. GM just has 3rd rows in larger more expensive vehicles but it does offer them.
