While I'm sure there are a few left over 2004's left out there... my guess is that you are lying....... again.
I also spotted a silver 2005 GTO at different dealer a week-or-two back. The GTO is far from sold out.

My best guess is that there's plenty of secret dealer cash out there! Remember the secret "$2,000 coupon" that went directly to Pontiac dealers when they sold a 2005 GTO.

GM extends the promotion, and Ford and DCX copy it.

Guess it's working.

Suss Pontiac/GMC in Aurora, Colorado ((303) 751-3400) has 3 or 4 '04 GTO's on the lot. They are going for about $26k. I am not affiliated with Suss, only want to help anyone who might be considering purchasing a GTO. I really like the car, and hope that they are available in '07-08 when I am in a position to buy one. I figure any help in getting the current models moved only enhances the chances of them being around in 2-3 years.

You spotted a 2005 GTO at a dealer a week or two ago?!

Hey, guess what? It's still the 2005 model year!

(I especially love the "it's far from sold out" line, because you saw ONE CAR on a lot... even though the removed the car from the Emp Discount program, and Mr. Lutz has said a few times that the car is reaching a "sodl out" status for MY2005)

Actually, at some point those 2004 GTOs are only the dealer's problem. Any time a unit goes unsold for too long, the manufacturer normally makes a cash settlement with the dealer. No more incentives. No more rebates. It's the dealer's problem.

When does a 2 year old unsold "new" car become a "used" unit? That only happens when the dealer gives up and take it to auction.

In my book, any "new" 2004 that's still hanging should command a "used car" price.

What's a zero miles "used" 2004 GTO worth at auction? NOT $26K!

Thats funny, the 2005 GTO's true market value in my area, according to edmunds.com is still right about msrp. Thats what people are paying. Granted, the employee discount data likely has not been averaged into the average yet. The new totals should be up shortly. 32k+ is too much for the gto to me.

Market share increased 5% in like a few weeks, they had to move loads of 05's although I suppsose there is nothing wrong with getting rid of them all. It just seemsl ike it will now be even harder to get back to a regular pricing system even if they are dropping MSRP...

We all know Joe Blow loves a deal and if he comes in tuesday and sees a car for the same price it was monday when it was on sale he's going to feel like he should be able to get an even better deal...

Although I guess you can't say this reaks of desperation anymore, at least not for GM alone that the others are copying it. I wonder how much money Ford is losing on each 500 now, after they already lowered the price a lot to compete with the 300.

The next few months will be interesting.

You poor rats following the Pied Piper. GM is "looking good" but little do you realize the cliff ahead and the drowning sure to occur. It's like living large on credit cards, it's great until the mail arrives.

No....more like scary. Ford and DCX can't compete with Toyota, Honda or Nissan. The only stable one (and that's using the term loosely) is GM. I fear for DCX more than Ford as DCX has Mercedes to worry about (which is bleeding money every month). Ford at least has the Mustang.

Either way you slice it (or dice it as one of these two are concerned) the future will not be good for either.

Re: GM extends the Employee Discount program through Aug 1st

Well at least DCX has some rather exciting product out, the LX cars are selling well, and if a Challenger concept debuts this year that will garner a lot of attention.

Ford seems to have no problem with the mustang carrying them for quite some time to come.

GM doesen't have any affordable products that really excite, but the if they keep making little price cuts, and getting people into cars they may make it until new models start rolling out.

BTW, are there still rebates and 0% financing to go along with the employee discount?

Hey, didn't your time expire on the GMAC sale bet you made? I think you owe someone a dinner.

I wouldn't be doing a whole lotta future predicting if I were you. :blah:
