I can understand trying to take measures to clear out leftover 2008 stock...

WhatI do not understand , though, is the need to put this incentive on seemingly popular (CTS) or currently in-vouge smaller cars (Cobalt, HHR, etc) that are 2009's.

Well I just went on gm.com and compared the "Your price" on the CTS, Vette, Malibu, G8, and Cobalt and the discounts after everything considered (including small 'cash back' rebates in a couple of cases) amounted to between right at invoice and 3% below invoice.

Not very impressive considering you have to finance at the full rate with these deals. I pretty much expect to be able to walk in to any GM dealer and offer them somewhere right at or just above invoice and have them accept, which means in the absolute best case scenario for the GM employee price I might be paying 4% less than I normally would... but then consider that before this most of these cars were offering 0% financing for between 48 and 72 months. Well, 0% financing for even one year would more than make up for that 4% savings.

Meaning the 0% financing offer was a much better deal than this.

I do not qualify for GMS pricing, however, when I purchased my SRX 6-7 weeks ago, I got:

1) Actual GMS pricing (again, I do NOT qualify for GMS at all.)

2) The dealer paid ALL of my taxes which amounted to approx $2750...

3) I was able to use $2500 of my GM Card money.

---- Side note: (I kept the old version of the card, and converted my wife's to the new version... best of both worlds)...

4) I got the 0% financing for 72 months that was offered at the time....

5) Since I was using GMAC Lease Pull Ahead, I got 2 of my remaining 3 lease payments paid for me PLUS I got $2000 cash toward the SRX purchase. (Total value: $2000 + $650 - $325 = $2325 value)

6) The front tires on the GXP were toast... but I made them covering the liability for them part of the purchase contract.... they covered them, I did not have to pay for new ones. (Approx value: $300-350)

7) I had two dents from the wife smacking the Envoy's door into the GXP (thanks! ) and they were borderline for me being responsible for repairing them according to GMAC "wear square"... again, I worked it out that they would be responsible for this rather than me....and they covered those as well. (Approx value: $250-$300)

So, I think I made out fairly well, and presumably better than I would have under this promotion.

HHR SS is included, but Tuesday (yesterday) I had a quote and with the $2250 in rebates/savings it came out to $21,500. Rebates went down to $1000 with employee discount, bringing the total today to $21,400. Huge savings.

I guess at least it takes any guess work out of it for people who hate haggling.

Exclamation The real scoop

As you may be able to surmise from my screen name, I am a Chevy/Pontiac sales "consultant". To fill everyone in with as much as I know

1. GM pricing covers all brands including ALL'08 models and some '09 models (HHR and Cobalt).

2. You can still use rebates of up to 5,000.00 on vehicles. Most vehicles don't have this much in rebate available but...

3. You can still use earnings on any GM card. Doesn't matter what card, use it.

4. No more 0% financing available, on anything that I offer anyway.

5. It is a good deal and there are some special APR's available on vehicles.

will it bring in more business??? I hope so but probably not...

This thread farther shines light on the fact that everyone wants GM, Ford, and Chrysler to pull out of this but NOBODY wants to go and buy any of their vehicles unless the manufacture gives a big discount. I dont think anyone going into TOyota or a honda dealership is going to get to much extra taken off the price. Until the big 3 can move cars/trucks without incentives ALL THE TIME they will remain in trouble.

My family is guilty of this too. We bought 3 new cars in 07/08. 2 at 0% and an 07 cobalt with their maxed 2000 Gm points and other incentives that took 4500 off a bit above invoice. NObody in my family would ever buy a toyota or nissan anything but everyone "knows" the incentives will be coming.

To knowingly go out and purchase a brand new vehicle when the deals aren't as good as they will be soon enough is to throw money away, or at absolute best, to donate it to GM. As well as I like GM I'm not about to start donating my hard earned cash toward them and their dealer network... they're not a charity.

Agreed. It's not like I'd walk into a Honda dealership and say "I'll buy whatever you have at MSRP!"

Yep, the Big Three have trained their customers that there's always another big sale coming up. It's a very tough cycle to break.
