There's a great Go-Kart track near my area where GM and Mazda can put both of these cars to the test and settle this age-old dispute once and for all! Plus, there is a great cotton candy vendor there. I think you have to be over 12 years old to race though.

If they are to compare apples to apples then it should be the base miata, as i assume it is the base solstice (actually the only solstice, therefore the base). If they are in the same class, then you have to put bias aside and give props to the solstice for beating its competition.

Save up for the GXP

Under 7.89 0-60 should be no problem. C&D Estimated performance to be 7.5 sec. Maybe since the 2.4L production was held back (Cobalt) they are tweaking it for more power.

If it isn't even around 7.0 then I will be disappointed. The Miata will weigh about the same right? So the Mazdaspeed version has 170, so what does that run?

Also, they have to make sure it bests the new Miata that comes out in 06' I think, or else that will look bad, but I think they will be able to do it.

Re: GM claims Solstice faster than Miata.

Solstice is BIGGER than the Miata.

Solstice vs Miata
Length 157" vs 155"
Width 72" vs 66"
wheelbase 95" vs 89"
height 50" vs 48"
front & rear track 60.5 & 61" vs 55.7 & 56.7
BASE tires 245/45-18 tires vs 205/45-16
curb weight 2860# vs 2450#
engine 2.4L 170 hp I4 vs 1.8 142 hp I4

Solstice is about as wide as a Monte Carlo (72.3 vs 71.6) and has virtually the same rear track at 61.2 vs 61.4. Compared to Corvette, Solstice is a mere 1" off in width & actually has a wider rear track. From any angle than directly abreast (where it will look stubby), the Solstice is going to look the same size as a Corvette.

So, unless you park a Miata door handle to door handle with a Solstice and view it in close profile, the Solstice is going to be noticiceably bigger than a Miata, even if you don't have a tape measure.

And most certainly a little too large to be running around a go-kart track.

Are they measuring rear track from the outside of the wheels or from the inside?

The same way everyone else is measuring it.

Re: GM claims Solstice faster than Miata.

I think GM is really working that 2.4 for some sersious power, but only in RWD form?
I think the Solstice will be a HUGE hit as it is a VERY sexy car! It might not do 0-60 in 3 sec...but not all cars are ment to be supercars. If it handles on par with cars like the Miata, S2K, and RX8, I will be very happy and GM should have a killer on hand.
