GM card $2K top off
GM card $2K top off
GM is trying to drum up some sales in January by upping balance on GM card earnings to $2000. Sales have been down (6%) for 2007 and GM is trying to pump things up. I have a friend in Florida that received this offer and is interested in a new 07 Monte Carlo SS. For some reason, GM isnt offering this offer on 07 Montes. Dont know why, because it would help the dealers move a car that is not produced anymore.
they topped mine off to $3,000
which is an insult when you see you can't actually use that amount on any vehicle
might as well have just gone ahead and topped it off to $1,000,000 as it means the exact same thing.

I don't understand ... no matter what balance you have, whether it's $18 or $1800, they're just going to round it up to $2000? Does it stay on your card forever or only for January?
I suppose that's cheaper than just giving an outright $2000 rebate. But as anasazi says, you can't use that on most models anyhow.

Got mine in the mail yesterday. My $198.78 got topped off to $2000.
If the 4-cylinder version of the Malibu LTZ was available now, I'd have a hard time resisting. Although the red CTS on the cover did raise an eyebrow from the Mrs.

Good until Jan 31, 2008. It can be used on almost all GM vehicles, including Corvette, but no Saturns, Saabs or Montes. He found a loaded Monte SS that lists for $30885 and the dealer is willing to take $25000 for it with the $2500 rebate going to dealer. If he could use his GM card $2K earnings, it would bring the SS down to $23000, which would be a he11 of a discount of nearly $8000 before TTP. The old 5% cards were only given a max top off of $2K.
I had $3700 on mine to begin with, but I can't use it w/ my GMS, and the maximum allowance on the car I want is only $1000 anyway. Now if they'd let me use all my points at once, I'd go order it TONIGHT! lol
I don't think you can get them. They tried to get me to switch but I didn't want to because of the limits per vehicle. I can only accumulate $500 per year though and they expire after 7 years so I can only get a maximum of $3500, a lot higher than the max they set on many of the vehicles though.
I wonder how much Visa pays GM as a percentage of charges put on the GM Card?
I know for the airlines, the card issuer pays the airline something like 1¢ per dollar charged on their air miles credit cards. Some airlines actually make money on their air miles programs because of this. On the other hand, Ford and others didn't keep their credit cards around very long so maybe it's not as lucrative.

The early GM cards from 10 years ago give you 5% earnings on things you charge. I know people that rang up $3000 in earnings in 1 year. People were getting carried away with their earnings and GM started limiting the amount you could use on a vehicle and issued new cards that were only good for 1% and had limits on them. The blue and gold cards have a $500 annual earnings cap. The copper colored card and the platinum card (old card) have earnings redemption limits and vary depending on which vehicle is purchased.
