I believe Mr. Bryant was suggesting the S2000 has higher VE based on its peak torque rating (torque is independent of rpm and is a pretty good barometer of volumetric efficiency). Divide its peak torque into its displacement, and do the same for the LS6, and the Honda makes a bit more torque which indicates it's filling its cylinders better.

VE does not measure "how much air and fuel does a motor need to make its power." Power does not figure into the equation at all (that's more the domain of thermodynamic efficiency). VE is a measure of how much air an engine intakes at a give rpm in relation to its displacement.
