GM bankruptcy thread
I expect the dollar to get much weaker and our economic hardship to get harder in 2009. Add to that GM is already running out of money some time in 2009. Despite all that I still think the Gov't will bail them out, but maybe not until after bankruptcy. Should be an interesting year.
Local fuel prices have dipped as low as 2.21/gal. Im kinda hanging out to see what that could do after some sustained months of that price level.
A local a/c parts maker (for GM mostly) is throwing 150 folks out on the street the first week in December. Those jobs are going to Mexico to help GM save some money so hell with GM. Shut it down whenever or change some tax codes to balance trading for our citizens benefits.

I picked July. The summer months haven't been kind to GM in the past few years, and that puts them right about the time when the current cash-on-hand is likely to dip to the magic $10B mark.
Pinpointing this sort of thing is impossible, though. The last few major bankruptcies of suppliers in the auto industry came as surprises; just a few days before the plug was pulled, it would have been extremely difficult to say with certainty that a filing was imminent.

Housing market has not yet bottomed out. The next crisis will be credit card defaults. At least half of Americans with credit cards are over extended and banks are now jacking up interest rates to all cc holders, even those with perfect payment history that have never been late or over limit. I figure it will be August when GM finally decides to cry uncle and tap out. This is if no other domestic automaker decides to go earlier.
I forgot the union was the reason Gm may file bankruptcy, lets just blame the union. Maybe we could blame them for the housing market downfall also. Now i see why gas prices were 4 bucks a gal last summer, because of the union.
UAW-CAW contracts would be null and void. Finding workers at $12/hour to keep plants running-no problem. Billions going to VEBA?-sorry Charlie. When all 3 domestic automakers declare, what will stop people from buying foreign? That is a question that an answer must be found before declaring, as there must be an exit strategy in place.
The Volt will NOT earn GM money!
Therefore, it will not help GM's cash burn, and it will not slow GM's decline.
Like the Prius, it is a public relations item.
New Volt/Cruze engine plant in Flint is costing GM $370 million at a time when they can least afford it. Due to intense pressure to produce a plug in car, I dont see plans for it to get scrapped, even though gas is quickly heading down to $2/gal.
There will be no profit to make electric cars ...And who will be able to afford $40,000 -$50,000 on one???
The Volt was a really cool looking car last year,,,,but now it looks so very differant that I would never want one.
I hope we all get a Camaro SS
But if Gas prices go under $1.00 or $40 a barrel the world economy will be broke...
Only reason Gas prices are cheap is everyone is losing their jobs and people cannot afford gas.....
I am sure many of us will enjoy the cheaper gas.
if anyone is getting screw
We the ones that have GM credit cards are.
I have thousands of points that I might not be able to use on a GM car,,,,Guess I will take the cash

You keep saying this, but you don't offer an explanation as to why you think this. It makes no sense to me. The economy should boom because of cheap oil.
No need for a Explanation
Common sense tells you worldeconomy was doing well when oil prices were higher....
Now since oil is much lower the world economy is doing worst.(has nothing to do with housing problems}
I can go on and on but no reason too.
