GM asking questions at their website
I suppose that the argument could be made on the early Impala SS that bucket seats were a 'luxury' item......but the real emphasis was on acceleration, braking, and handling.
I wouldn't equate luxury at all with the Chevelle SS...other than the early ones, again, had bucket seats.....and I guess some saw that as a luxury feature.

First off, that phrase does not show "ignorance," but rather how much i despise this fwd "phase."
Next, i meant to say i didnt agree with GM's take on globalization and where GM was taking it. Ford isnt doing bad are they? Still have full frame sedans and the mustang dont they? Did i say anything regarding how much the wimpala sold? I could care less, i was refering to the Impala nameplate and the SS badge. The huge amounts of those cars being sold only adds to my greed and money area.
Next, have you ever seen the interior of a '94-'96 Impala SS? If one were to look inside, it would be obvious that leather and all the other plentiful options qualify as luxury.
The "SS" nameplate was made on an 409ci w/ 360 hp Impala in retaliation to Ford's 360 in 1961 i believe. I'm not sure who came up with it.
I also said greed and money killed the real SS, not the current "SS."
Yes, the world is changing, and for the worst in my opinion. But yet Ford is not struggling with their huge line-up of RWD V8 vehicles. Dodge is coming out with V8 RWD vehicles also. Chevrolet had it perfect and yet they wanted to "experiment."
I have driven a new Wimpala SS, not a Monte. I am not complaining about its performance. It gets up and goes, but IT HAS A BLOWER! Without it, its just a regular grocery getter. I understand alot more cars are coming out blown, but it shouldnt be for the fact of making up for weak hp and torque ratings. I would take my friends '68 Chevelle SS 396 over that any day.

GM and RWD V8 is something that you'll be hearing more of in the coming years, like the companys that you used for comparisons. Then you won't have much to complain about,
I understand where you are coming from though and there are people in GM that do too.

this is funny, arguing with a guy that probably thinks his TBI 305 powered boat is fast
Hey, I was there once. And I felt the same way. But that was over 4 years ago.
Anyway, yes, I've looked inside a 94-96 Impala SS. I do almost every day. My 96 SS is 8 years old and the interior hasn't held up very well at all. brown spots forming on the dash from old glue, the seat sliders breaking, the metal brackets that hold the seat cracking, the odometer fading, door panels rattling, etc, etc. The leather has held up ok considering the mileage.
I wish my car had the same quality interior parts that today's cars come with.

Did the 'SS' name plate start with the 409 Impala? I thought the 'SS' nameplate came into 'fruition' if you will not until '65 or '66. The first 396 Malibus in '65 were 'Z16' not 'SS' if I remember my history right.
Plus, I think it was the '58 or '59 Corvette race car that was called the 'Super Sport'?
How did this thread wonder off into the jungle?
