GM asking questions at their website

Now the new Impy SS, that I think could be an SS with it's hi po engine, bigger wheels and perf susp. It's a perplexing marketing problem.

I agree. The SS should be the top performer of the family, not just a luxury package. Odd this seems to paralelle an argument of my Dad's genertion when the SS wagons came out

The SuperCharged SS (240hp) is an up-level SS, not unlike how there were 350 SS's and 396 SS's back in the day...

What would the locals have to say about it. I'm sure they would find the transverse supercharged V6, FWD set-up interesting and innovative. They would also notice that it would pretty much outperform most every other SS ever made.....in any category you could think of.

HOWEVER, since I judge car and driver's abiltiy by also being able to brake and turn...today's car could be considered better performers.
The trend is changing to "rice" "SS." The cobalt will appeal to rice burners more than anything else.
The real Impala has always been RWD and on a solid frame and yet the new one looks like a cavalier with retarded real lights.
This new breed of "SS" models is ridiculous. It wasn't always based on acceleration. It was also based on luxury, performance, full/semi-frame, reliablity, RWD and pushrod motors. Now manufacturers are installing blowers from the factory to make their cars fast because the stock car cant break 16's stock due to weak torque and hp ratings. The GN was a different story since it was still RWD and had a full size frame. It also was a really limited production model.
I will not purchase or support any new fwd blown piece of **** that GM has sadly replaced real muscle cars with. I would rather buy a Ford Mustang.
If you guys want to see a 5th Gen F-Body, stop supporting this trash. Its supposed to come out in 2007, but will share a Holden design which is BS within itself.
I don't care if you don't agree with what im saying, but its my opinion. Keep your F, G and B body cars in MINT condition for they have been terminated forever. GM, until you can make a decent car again, you can eat my ***. Money and greed has killed tradition and the real SS badge.

Edit: the SS badge has nothing to do with the vehicle itself. I thought you were attacking the vehicle itself, but after reading your other posts I see that SS badge is the culprit.

P.s. just cuz you don't like the current gm lineup...that doesn't make them trash.
First off, I was expressing my opinion. My opinion is that they are trash. Your opinion is that they aren't. I don't care. If you had half a brain, you would realize that i was not directing that phrase to you or anybody on this site. I was directing it toward GM executives as a whole. Next, why don't you work on your sentence structure and actually read the posts instead of assuming things.

And be realistic....ie., don't just say, bring back the '96 B-body and big blocks.
Thats a good question, but i couldn't really answer it fully. Based on the current platforms, i would not release any. And since im not allowed to bring back B and F body platforms, I would have to make a new platform closely related to that of the B and F body. GM had it down pat and perfect so I its hard to make up one lol. But with regards to an engine, it would be a naturally asperated chevy small block. Since chevy basically killed the 350 now, itwould probably have to be the newely brought back 327. They would obviously be RWD. I would make the sports models comparable to the mustang and etc in price and performance and not make any changes to the Silverado SS. Basically have a family sedan SS, like the Impala SS, a pure sport SS like the old chevelles and alike and etc. RWD V8 cars are coming back from GM but it will be about 3 years and they will be based off of Holden cars. Things will never be made like they used to be. :P

Certainly in ride, handling, and braking. And yes....even in acceleration....it would outperform most other stockSS's of the period.
It certainly would put the hurt on all of the I6 and smallblock V8 SS's....and even on a good portion of the lower powered (325 hp/396) big blocks. The higher hp big blocks would beat it by several tenths to a half a second, in the 1/4 mile....but these versions were rare. A Monte Carlo SS Supercharged is about as fast as a '66 L-79 Chevy II. Remember....before you post a bunch of road tests....STOCK.....no slicks, no headers, no super tune......STOCK.
The point is....if you took cars like Impala SS and MC SS back to 1968...they would hold their own.
OK....Mr. Annihilatorx.........unfortunately I'm not in a real good mood tonight, so I'm going to respond to you.
(by the way Z284ever....liked your posts in this thread...and thanks for the telephone call last week!)
First.....you'd better learn that if you ever expect the majority to ever respect your opinion, you should lose phrases such as "eat my a**" It shows your ignorance.
Second....I don't think you DO understand the automobile business..... I say this based on your statement to the effect that you don't agree on globalization (every manufacturer has learned they need to be a global manufacturer to compete today) SUVs and Trucks (that's over 50% of the market in the U.S. today based on what people want and need in a vehicle).....you'd bankrupt the automobile company you are working for if you were actually in this business.......and your comments to the "wimpala" which, sold over 250 thousand units this past year.....most of which were retail....a few years into a lifecycle.
Your comments on the history of the SS are somewhat flawed.....
The SS model was never associated with luxury. It was based on performance (both handling, acceleration, and braking) and appearance
As to the SS name ....(and don't anyone jump in here)..... Mr. Annihilatrox, please tell us where the SS nameplate came from...who coined it...and what he said about it...and in what year.....
Yes, the early SSs were based on full frames at the beginning....but I think that's simply because the Impala at the time was based on a full frame. Yet, the argument could be made that had it been placed on a Chrysler product, it would have been on a unibody...not a full frame.
As to money and greed killing tradition? I don't get your point on that statement....but I can say that money and greed certainly didn't kill the SS badge.
Perhaps you need to understand that the world has changed.
Now...with all that said, I'm the first one to harp that we need high performance V8/RWD cars at Chevrolet. But I also understand that Chevrolet.....or any other 'full line' manufacturer (note, I said 'full line') needs not only to see what the public at large wants and needs in the current market.....BUT....they need to be looking out 8 to 10 years to determine what the ''hot' buttons will be......and to be able to get there.
Several of you have heard me say this: The manufacturer that gets it right will stay in business...the one that gets it wrong will be gone.
One last question: have you actually driven a new Monte Carlo Supercharged SS???
I don't mean to bash people on this site, but I think your comments are way off here..........
