Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone

Option 1 and Option 2 have been replaced with GMS. The discount is the same whether you buy off the lot, or order. Corvette however is excluded this year. Make your best deal with whichever dealer has the product, or allocation if you order, and be happy. Really good products don't need gimmicks. It also is true there were production problems with the convertible, limiting supply.

BTW, I was an engineer for GM up until late 2000, then I took a better job with a fortune 50 chemical company. I still get the full GM employee discount through family though.

I bought my 2001 Chevy Venture with the GMS option, and it's been a perfect vehicle for maintenance after 50k miles. (Only oil changes and windshield washer fluid.) Go GM!!

According to this thread on Corvette Forum, Corvette is no longer part of the GMS program.... but not until June 1st.

Darth,
Do you have that link? I'd like to read about it. So you are saying that GMS is still possible with the C6 until June 1st? That would explain why I was able to get GMS pricing a few months back.

GMS hasn't been available on Vette for months now, unless yours was grandfathered in by virtue of an order which was honored at the price given initially.

Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone

Sorry, I think I confused things now. I can only say that I got GMS pricing on a C6 vette a few months back. I haven't tried to get that same GMS price since then. You are probably correct Buickman, that the 'vette's are not part of the GMS program, right now. Things will change again though, and GMS will be available again.

I'm pretty sure that dealers do not have to GMS pricing on any vehicle if they don't want. It's the dealer's choice. So if a vehicle was hot and in short supply, we didn't do it. Not sure if it's like that now or not.

I don't think dealers have a choice.

If you are a GM employee, or family member, you get the discount as long as GM says that GMS is offered on that vehicle.

Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone

OK:
1. What exactly is GMS?

2. I stopped at a local dealer a couple weeks ago to see if they had a Cobalt SS, and the vultur salesman called me today. He said that GM introduced an incentive program today, for the month of June, that would offer cars to the general public for what GM employees buy them for. He also said, this is included with all the current rebates/incentives, and I "could now get a new car thousands of dollars cheaper," and even cheaper than their invoice prices. Since it is now the 1st of June, and Wed., I was hoping you could help me out here Buickman...TIA

Unless something has changed since 2000 (last year I sold cars) it's the dealers choice to sell at GMS or not.

Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone

Just an FYI...

They put the GMS (plus rebate I assume) calculator up on www.gmbuypower.com this morning....

Looks liek some CRAZY deals on truck and SUV GMT-800's from Chevy and GMC... they look to be the biggest discounts.
