what happened to rolling back on rebates?
GM will announce Wednesday that it will offer all buyers the same discount that employees get, giving consumers nationwide thousands of dollars off the price of every 2005 car or truck except the Chevrolet Corvette, a person familiar with the plan said Friday. The employee discount varies by model.

I see a bit of a silver lining in this ...
"I think maybe some buyers have been turned off by fairly complicated incentives, where there are five or six options," Healy said. "Maybe it's a K.I.S.S. program ... Keep It Simple Stupid."

A guy at work just bought a 2005 Grand Prix GT with a GMS discount . His sister works at the Spring Hill Saturn factory . It really wasnt any better a deal than Ive seen advertised at most Pontiac dealers . Actually he paid a little more than a few local programs for the Grand Prix . I live in Indiana , he lives just over the boarder in Michigan .
It would be a large task , but I just dont understand why GM cannot just price the cars accordingly on the window stickers . If I was in a postition of arguing that subject with the people that create these programs , my biggest arguement would be the sticker shock for the Sunday shoppers , many people unaware of GM's rebate programs ....will and already do make for many people who dont return on Monday when dealer is open . Average Joe Schmo is probably gonna be turned off by that $28K sticker on a FULL boat G6 GT , when in fact your not gonna pay even close to that . Around here anyways , rebates or cash back offers ect. ect. are not always posted on the vehicles .
Fix the sticker price , lose the rebate programs . To go along with the fixed sticker prices , instead of rebates offer dealer incentives . So maybe the dealer can offer more cash for your trade , hidden by the incentive the conumer doesnt see . Lots of people upsidedown in the cars loans nowadays , and that way the buyer can feel he/she got a car they want at a resonable price and they also do not feel like they got took on their trade in . Im not a expert , but to me that would seem to make a happier consumer .

As I am General Manger of a Suski Buick Chevrolet, I will be happy to sort out the confusion, and explain the TRUE story of this newly announced program. Please post any questions now, and I'll do my best to provide thorough and timely replies once the details are clear on Wed.

Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone
GMS is GMS - if that's what they're offering. There are no levels associated with it. The amount can vary from car to car, but there isn't a GMS Level 1 and a GMS Level 2 or anything like that.
The Supplier Discounts are not as low and are not the same thing as GMS.
PEP is something completely different.
Honestly, just call it what it is - which will probably help - an across the board price reduction.

Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone
The GMS price is easy to see. It's printed right on each vehicle's invoice. The question, soon to be answered, is the applicability and stackability, of other incentives in addition to this offering. I'll do my best to answer any questions that arise as the info flows into the dealership. Usually these types of programs get modified within the first day or so. If anyone is ready to "make a deal" fell free to call me on (586) 9114- BUICK (2842) and I will give you advice on how to approach your local dealer to be sure you receive all that's coming to you.

is this going to help GM recover financially or is this just going to be a vicious cycle of losing money quarter after quarter where they have to give cars away to move them?
Re: GM to allow Employee Discounts for everyone
Interesting!!! Will need to see what really shakes down with this deal.
BTW, I get the full GM employee discount. Seriously thought about a C6 a few months back.

BTW, I was an engineer for GM up until late 2000, then I took a better job with a fortune 50 chemical company. I still get the full GM employee discount through family though.

I bought my 2001 Chevy Venture with the GMS option, and it's been a perfect vehicle for maintenance after 50k miles. (Only oil changes and windshield washer fluid.) Go GM!!
