Giugiaro Mustang Concept.
Other way around...
.... if its not a hit.. they will change the currently done redesign for 2010...
Do not forget he didn't just DO this... JMays asked him to.
I have zero doubt that this car is influenced by the redesign...
Much in a way that the 2005 Concept was built AFTER the production design was locked in.

I have posted before that the next Mustang (be it '09 or '10) is already done.
It's not like Ford is looking for design ideas at this time.
It is possible that the Italians got some insight and it could be a feeler gage for public response, but Ford is already having production tooling made and doing PPAP tests on components, so there won't be any major changes at this point.
On-topic, I like the front-end pretty well, the profile is a bit too sleek for me (I want a PONY car, not a super-sleek land missile that is hard to live with), and I don't like the tail-lamp config as many others have commented.
(Good thing that's not how the next production car will look, huh?!?!
)
Just wanted to say, to everyone who said Ford and Dodge pigeonholed themselves into a corner and they could only evolve into 70's styling. Or that retro could not evolve into anything else and it would kill the car.
Told Ya!
Told Ya!
Read the article again. Giugiaro approached Mays, not the other way around.
I have my doubts about this car having a lot to do with the Mustang redesign. There have been many custom car builders and designers who have done one-off concepts based on current vehicles, Corvette included, and they have never amounted to much more than a "gee-whiz" design study.

The article sounds wrong.
Guigiaro himself mentions that JMays approached him...
http://webridestv.com/movie_v2.aspx?movieid=101
"...came about after a pleasant meeting at the 2005 detroit autoshow. JMays asked me if I would consider designing a prototype, for a hypothetical mustang of the future."
Knew I heard it was the other way around..
You're spot-on.

)Things may have changed since then.
Also, its easy for Ford to dissect comments based on a supposed 'hypothetical concept'<snicker> and seperate the chaff.
"I hate how it looks...but those hips are nice" (point)
"I hate how it looks.. but that hood is cool" (point)
"I like that wheel design" (point)
They can deduce if they are on the right path or whether things need to be changed.
Releasing this kind of concept...at an autoshow no less... just because...
No..not 'just because'
For very good reason
Although with this concept we obviously aren't looking specifically at the new Mustang the way we were looking at Camaro earlier this year, you can put me down on the list of people that thinks we're looking at a pretty good preview.
It's probally a good guess that the guys who did this car were given a look at the next Mustang & they created their own stylistic version of it.

Y'all know this Mustang is at NAIAS and is getting mixed reviews...
and I say that's just what Ford wants!
Some parts of this car are pretty spot-on for the next design and critique on those parts is what Ford wants to hear about.
Things like the interior, the cowskin, the rear buckets, etc will NEVER make it to production and WE ALL KNOW THAT, so comments about those things are washed away immediately by the product planning people and designers. Call it "camouflage" for the real experiment if you will.
I spoke before that I figured this would be a metric to judge response on the next design... now I am CONVINCED of it.
I do hope most people like the grill and front profile.
The tail light config on this car is definitely not production material.
And the glass-roof thing is already a CDC aftermarket deal - it won't be factory either.
Nor will the windshield be so drastically sloped.
I better stop.
Yeah remember prototypes were shown around the same time in a back room around the same time as the Camaro concept. BUT..that could have been when it was still an 09, not an 010.
Things may have changed since then.
