I like them both, I hope the G8 makes it to production w/o much deviation.
I like the CTS look but I hope it remains a Cadillac look, and the Pontiac keeps its own look as well.
I haven't driven either one, so I can only comment on appearance...the CTS looks more conceptual than the G8 to me.

There are vids of the red production style G8 on YouTube.

Looks damn good to me. The CTS is the nicer car no doubt - the way it should be - but the G8 comes with a V8 for the price of the Caddy's 6.

The G8 is the poorman's BMW, whereas the CTS aims to be the BMW.

G8 for sure. The new CTS isn't that exciting when it's sitting next to the G8.

I like them both... a lot.

I would absolutely, positively cross-shop these cars....... and I think a lot of people who aren't hung up on having an upper-end luxury nameplate will as well.

The CTS has the same almost over the top bling factor that Escalade does... And while I have mixed feelings about that I definetly think its distinctly American and allows Cadillac to stand out next to the Europeans and Japanese.

The G8 on the other hand looks pretty much like every other Pontiac I can remember and while the performance may be there, I dont know if thats enough to radically reform Pontiacs image.
I agree 100%

I like both. It would be hard for me to pick which one I think has more impact. IMO, the CTS is just flat out gorgeous and a very nice evolution of the old car to boot, which looks almost awkward and unrefined in comparison - this is not meant as too much of a criticism since I do really like the current CTS as well.

The G8 is a very well executed, attractive and capable sedan and I am a fan of the VE car anyway so the opportunity to get one (since I missed out on the GTO) is a welcome one. I think what some people seem to be missing/confusing here is that the concept includes some features that are SS-V items (with some HSV thrown in too) but the G8 is in reality, the slightly less flashy but just as capable SS.

I'm just glad there is a choice that for once is very difficult to make. That by itself bodes well for the future of GM given that the Camaro and Impala (and whatever others) will soon be joining the party - mindblowing array of high quality choices (and not all FWD for a change) from a company that served up a whole lotta blandness for so many years. It's been a good long while since I've felt this way when faced with the question of what GM car will I get next. Honestly I don't know..... it should be interesting though.

Wouldnt it be logical guess that you can look look at a production Commodore SS-v to see the stock ride height , it will probably get the SS-v 18 wheels( the red G8 in the video had these wheels ) and production Holden interior materials ? Arent the 20" shadow chrome concept wheels offered in a 19" version for the HSV commodore ? Thats probably the 19" optional Pontiac wheels . The shadow chrome finish is the stock wheel paint used on the 18" UN-polished Cobalt SS wheels so it will likely make production on the Pontiac versions . The Commodore already has the 2 tone interiors . I dont see how it would be to much of a mystery what the production G8 would look like .

Given that , I think the Pontiac will still retain the cool factor of the showcar

The CTS is the one Im worried about from a ride height and wheel size perspective . The 19's on the show car and lowered susp. looked completely awesome . The smaller wheels and higher susp will take away more from the CTS than it will the G8 , I just cant picture the CTS on 17's .

They did a great job on both cars though , I think both hit the targets they were aiming for . The fubar by Pontiac though , will be the lack of a 6 speed at launch . The delay makes no sense , considering 6 speed Commodores are already in production

Given the price difference, the difference in target audience, and the overall difference in personality, I'd say this is a comparison that is a little off kilter. I'd say a comparison between the G8, Charger, and Fusion might be a little closer.

But if you are talking strictly about styling, I'd have to give the G8's musclecar aroma over the CTS' modern classiness.

The CTS is something I'd consider seriously over a BMW (if it had a stick with the V8) and I think the new CTS is going to be a hit for GM. But I'm more into road cars, and like lowkeyed, serious looking machinery. To me the G8 hits it on the head.

I haven't personally seen the G8 concept or the new CTS. But I have seen all the new VEs and WMs on the street and drove a V8 Calais. I think these cars look great. They are actually pretty agressive looking in person on the streets, & with the chrome accents give the car a sort of understated elegance. If you could get the honeycomb grille in metallic or chrome like you can on some of the current Grand Prixs, the car would look even more elegant, yet still understated.

Understated is something that doesn't seem to be in the vocabulary of the new CTS.

I'd cross shop them too. I'd probably end up with the G8 due to the lower price.

I haven't see the G8 in person but it doesn't look that great to me. Of course Pontiac's styling department has always screamed corny to me.

The all new CTS on the other hand hits the mark dead-on to me (unlike the previous design). My only concern is if it will be able to compete with the driving dynamics of the European competition, especially after it got larger in size.

Judging only by this thread, I think GM has done their job perfectly of having brand differentiation. Who would have thought that we would be here 3 years ago?

I'll pick the G8...especially if they offer a GXP package. I love the looks of it. The CTS isn't too shabby either. There isn't a wrong choice which is what GM needs! Good job on putting together 2 great looking RWD sedans with optional V8s...CTS-V will be the carrier of the V8 soon.

The large majority of the "winkie club" has been announcing GM's second coming for over a decade, now. So if this is finally it, I'm not too impressed by the people who've been saying it for years now - kinda like the guy who says his favorite sports team is gonna win it all this year and finally 15 years later they do... well, it was bound to happen eventually.

That said I'm still not convinced this is GM's second coming, though it looks like it very well could, maybe even should be... you just never know just by looking at pictures of something.
