The L98 is actually a little different from the LS2 -- it's a Gen IV engine, but a little less hi-po, with good emissions. I don't remember the details. The LS2 (rated at 400 hp) is also offered in Oz, in the HSV cars.

The L98 is an L76 but with the DoD and VCT removed. So looking at the specs of the L76 gives you a good idea of what the L98 delivers.
Broken down to the basics tho.
LS2 bottom end.
Gen IV based heads/intake
8.3L sump.
Lower compression and smaller cam than the LS2.
