G8 to be V8's only?
G8 to be V8's only?
Will Pontiac be importing only the Commodore SS, or will we be getting the V6 as well? I think the hopped up V6 would sell well here. It could compete well with the Maxima's of the world, and possibly make out as a bargain basement BMW fighter.
I would think they would offer some different powertrain options, or at least you would hope. Afterall, the Grand Prix did offer a few engine choices... 3.1L, 3.8L, 3.8L supercharged, eventually the LS4.
I believe some sources are stating there will be a V6 model as well.

I'm doubtful the V6 will make it over. If it does, then the $25K pricetag that keeps turning up will be about right.
I'd also say, if that happened, Pontiac will sell a whole lot more than just 30K of 'em.
Quad cam V6? RWD? IRS? Sharp styling & handling to match? Lots of people would forget Grand Prix ever existed.

Will they be imported to Canada, or just the US?
GTO never made it here. I will be looking for a new vehicle in 2008, and a nice RWD (hopefully manual transmission) Commodore with great styling would be a welcome addition.
So, does anyone know if it will be imported to Canada, or will they wait until production starts locally?

- GTO never made it to Canada because it wasn't initially designed for international standards (remember it was off the old Omega platform from the 1990s) and so would have cost too much to modify for our small market.
- Commodore/G8 has been designed to be compatible with all major world markets
- GTO was low volume, and GM probably thought they'd easily sell out their allotment in the US alone. G8 has more production capacity.
- When Grand Prix dies, if G8 doesn't replace it in Canada, that leaves Pontiac with no large sedan.
- Pontiac is bigger in Canada than it is in the US (relative to other GM divisions). That's why Canada got special models like Tempest, Pursuit, Wave, Asuna, etc.
Given all that, it would hard to imagine it not making it to Canada.
