Future Camaro based on Zeta platform is put on hold.
GM says that a vehicle similar to the Camaro/Firebird based on Zeta architecture is on hold due to expense. Lutz says they're looking for a replacement. " The timing of the vehicles is in limbo until GM settles on a vehicle architecture."

Only GM could have a car 80% done (and that was from a credible source) in 2003, and take untill 2009-10 to bring a car to market.
I really don't see how they save money by dragging a development program out over nearly a decade. One would think it costs more because you have to constantly adjust the plans as time passes to fit the changing tastes of consumers.
Imagine a car designed in 2002-3 coming to market and being expected to sell well for 10 years with minor investment? Not really a way to set yourself up for sucess.

I love how the 30,000 unit Solstice gets its own platform from the ground up and is to market in 3 years, while the 100,000 unit Camaro sits around for most of a decade waiting to piggy back another car.

I think this falls under that "Unless you specifically hear something's cancelled, don't believe it" phrase.
Still sitting back & letting the dust clear.

Anybody see 2009 on it's way out of the building?
It had it's coat and Bowtie baseball cap on and was headed towards the door, I hope someone tackled it on the way out...
Lesse here... 2 years for design and prototypes... 1 year for body tooling... 6 months to PPAP the whole shooting match and then put it all together and actually make a car out of it...
Uh oh... someone better get it in gear or there's gonna be a "1" as the third digit in the model year... it'll start looking something like.... "201?"
