It's definitely a unique car that sounds like a pretty good concept. It just doesn't fit my situation. I've got a toy car that I'm not willing to sell unless for another toy (boat, another f-body, corvette, motorcycle, etc.) and I feel I need a truck for maximum usability (taking a dirtbike to the track, keeping mobile as I'm renting and I don't want to get a U-Haul everytime I want to move, able to get around in the snow, etc.)

Oil companies raking in billions of dollars per quarter don't need subsidies, corn subsidies are in the same realm. But giving cutting edge technology a nudge to put us above the Japanese and the rest of the world is a thing I like. If nobody buys a Volt, then the market dictates the subsidy is worthless and GM gets $0. They only get the money when one of their cars is sold.

You guys do realize that the article is talking about a segment during Bill O'Reilly's show don't you? Those blocks of shows in the evening are just that, shows. No different than Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow or Ed Shultz.
They're not meant to be taken as hardcore news. They're commentary and opinion shows.
Besides, it's not like ABC News or the NY Times have perfect records, and that was from their actual news departments. Don't confuse the entertainment segments of Fox News, CNN or MSNBC with regular news segments.

Ripping Fox News is just like ripping the Volt - both sides huffing about things they don't watch/study, don't understand, aren't interested in understanding and mostly parroting things they've heard from others.
I consider myself a pretty conservative guy, and I use my brain. This stuff about the Volt is ridiculously overblown as we all know and just like Stock said it's shameful that the talking heads on "my side" are trying to score a few stupid political points with it. I've always viewed Bob Lutz as kind of a conservative guy and obviously he feels the same way.

To top it off, these two media pros lamented the fact that the same government that had forced GM to produce the Volt was now extending $7,500 tax credits towards its purchase, thus squandering even more of %u201Cour taxpayer%u201D dollars on this failed Socialist-collectivist flopf. Just because one is a Republican or self described conservative does NOT mean everything they do is conservative. It also does not mean nothing they do is socialized or subsidized ... unfortunately. Pet peeve of mine. I wish people would stop mistaking an individuals actions with that individuals over generalized self description that everyone just accepts.
This is using a persons self description as an absolute attribute to all of their actions to redefine that description even when it does not apply.

A Volt isn't quite what I'd drive since I still need a bit of versitility (my ideal vehicle would be a new El Camino, but that's a different thread) and the price is still a bit too high. But it hits all my mileage targets and it's the anti-Prius in my view. I haven't found an owner say a bad word about it, and while Prius buyesr seem to be a group that simply wants to make a statement, Volt buyers seem to actually buy the car for practical reasons.
Ford had a number of cars whose ignition caught on fire, and in some instances where the car was parked in a garage, burned the house down. But while not a single solitary Volt has ever caught on fire in an accident or anyplace else, and the Feds dropped their investigation, you still have yellow journalist piling on the car as if it's a rolling fierbomb that the Feds swept under the rug because they pushed GM to make it as part of their bailout.
I find this whole lie-to-make-political-points pretty disgusting myself.
