Former GM land Sold

I'm shocked that no one has posted this yet..

Linky..

Former GM land sold
MONTREAL - A vast tract of land that contained the GM vehicle assembly plant at Boisbriand has been sold to Cherokee Investment Partners, a U.S. company that specializes in the redevelopment of industrial properties.

Land is still being cleared

The land will be turned into a self-contained commercial and residential district of Boisbriand.

The company says terms of the deal may be revealed after a final deal is reached with General Motors.

Approximately 1,200 GM workers lost their jobs when the Camaro and Firebird maker shut down in Aug. 2002.

The sprawling three-million-square-foot assembly plant is still being demolished.

Re: Former GM land Sold

So if the land doesn't belong to GM anymore, what problem is left with the name?

from what Ive read from some of the important people on this board, there should be NO probelm whatsoever with the name. Wait, doesnt GM still have to pay back that intrest free loan before they can the name.(without pissing the Canadian govt and unions) Am I right or wrong on this?

I was wondering the same thing. If you click the link you will see a pile of building with a backhoe. I remember someone posted that picture a week or two after the demolition of the St. Therease began. I'll have to go and try to find that thread..

Re: Former GM land Sold

Now that the plant is demolished, could GM use the camaro name if the car was built somewhere else in Canada? That should satisfy everyone: GM, the CAW, and the Canadian govt.

At this point I am just happy to hear about potiential plans for a chevy coupe to be built. As long as it is built somewhere within north america then I will be happy. Remember that alot of parts are made from other places, not just America.
