Ford's F150 just set an all-time monthly truck sales record (and quite likely the highest september sales of any US vehicle in history, since the F150 typically is the biggest selling vehicle in the US.

Other noteworthy items:
* Jaguar is up almost 43%
* Volvo is up 25%
* Mustang's taken a 22% hit
* Crown Vic is down sharply, but the identical Grand Marquis is up!
* Finally, the good, but newly, and very insanely overpriced Lincoln LS has dropped almost 30% over last year.

Overall, they're up 5%, and doing Ok overall.

Some good numbers for Ford. The sooner they can get back on track, the better.

While the Mustang took a 22% hit for September, i think sales ar up overall for the year. The October issue of Motor Trend had a section on sales trend, and the Mustangs sales through the first half of the year (jan-june) was up 8.9% compared to the first 6 months of last year. As of june of 2003, the Mustang was actually the 25th best selling car in America (more than the Neon, Windstar, S10, Grand Am, and a bunch of other cars/trucks).

 

As long as the F150 sells like that Ford will be fine. The F150 is now as important to Ford as the Model T or A ever was!

The Mustang will bounce back. I think Ford showed and wowed the Autoshow circut too soon with the 05 Stang. It may have persuaded many potential buyers to hold off and get the next model. Either way Ford will get the sale.

Almost 75% of the F-150's sales were of the "heritage" model, i.e. the old one. Ford's not afraid to fire-sale those to gain market share.

As to it being the best September sales of any vehicle in history, the Caprice sold over a million units annually in the 60s, so it may hold the crown.

 

Notice it states "F-Series" not F-150's. F-Series includes the sales of the SuperDuty line of trucks, vastly if not near completely different trucks, F-250, F-350 and on up. This combines to make up the "F-Series" moniker/designation.

This is how they market and get away with having the best selling truck line for 26 years. Ford takes their entire truck portfolio and combines it under one series or designation.

 

I saw a post in the lounge where the Fords were outsold by GM in September.

 

GM too makes "heavy duty" trucks in the form of the 2500 and 3500 (F-250 and F-350 equivelent). I'm pretty sure they're included within Silverado/Sierra sales as well.

 

Chevy trucks and GMC trucks sales numbers are separated since they are different GM divisions. If they did combine the sales of Chevy and GMC trucks they would top Fords "F-Series" as the best selling vechile in the country.

I like how Ford is boasting about the "New F-150s" hydro-formed frame rails. Hmm I wonder were they got that idea from?

 

This part is true. It was stated so by the Detroit News. The 2004 may have put them over the top but it isn't like they've broken any records by themselves...at least, not yet....

 

ford has a few top selling cars but their financial situation isnt in good shape right now.they just announced elimination of 12k jobs including its ranger plant in nj.


GM is doing well with its current lineup and excellent incentives.very aggressive and smart move on their part.
