I'm glad it is done. Last rumored new car was going to be the Tracer based on the '12 Focus. They can put the Mercury money into making a better Lincoln, maybe build some high end C segment cars to give dealers some more volume. (think Volvo C30, Audi A3, and Volkswagen Tiguan)

that last link was still pre-press conference. Here's the first I found after the announcement:
http://money.cnn.com/2010/06/02/autos/mercury_dead/

Interesting quote from the article:
Over the next several years, Lincoln will get seven all-new or drastically changed vehicles, Derrick Kuzak, Group Vice President, Product Development, said.

and this:
Among the vehicles Lincoln will offer in the future will be a compact car, Kusak said.

I don't think they've spoken to how they plan to wind it down yet. Considering they made less than 100,000 units last year, it can't take much to wind down production! I'm sure you can get some discounts as they sell of inventory.

Production on Mercury ends, at the end of the year.

Sad.

I love how they have to "deny deny deny" until they get everything in order and set the plan in motion.

It's because no one can keep their mouths shut these days. Whenever a company or the government has an announcement coming up, some dope within the organization can't help but blab about it annonymously to the press. In this case, Mercury dealers had to hear about it from the press before Ford management because of someone that just couldn't keep it to themself a little longer.
