42) Problem: Grenading rear ends.
I do think that the F5 needs a IRS, but the current unit is fine in the F4. I have never seen a stock F4 blow a 10 Bolt unless it had a crap load of miles. The general rule I have seen is that anything 12.50 and below you are risking blowing the rear. GM does not engineer cars with Bill Bob hopping it up and running nitrous in mind.

Chassis flex.
Converter hump.
Power window switches that work.
On the SS's I've driven the car would get pulled in
to the ruts on the road.
Good seats (easy just make a deal wth Recaro)
Not having to worry about the car spinning around in a
turn with rough pavement. (IRS)
Brakes that last more than 20,000 miles and don't fade. (call Brembo)
Better rubber seals for hatch, t-tops, windows.
A steering column that feels secure after 30,000 miles.
Paint to match on every body panel.
NIce tight alignment of the body panels.
No squeeks, or rattles coming from trunk area.
Better adhesives for trim around windows out side.
Better cluch and throwout bearing.
A drive shaft that doesn't vibrate when you go over 80mph.
Better lighting. (xenon's)
Nice sound system even the base stereo.
The radio in my car never sat the right way in the hole.
Cheap signal lever.
This is a good start. I can come up with some more if you like.

Other than that, the 4th gen Camaro is perfect for me as is.

Excellent, apart from the fact that I said ONLY ENGINEERING ISSUES.

I FLAME THEE!!!! I FLAME THEE!!!

Strike the cosmetics stuff, that's for genderless styling types who wear loud ties and drink tea out of little cups with their pinkys sticking up. THINK ENGINEER. Ultra-****, ultra-geeky, math whiz kid who you used to beat up on the way to school and take his lunch money.
Reformat the serviceability issue to Problem:Solution.
Edit your post and I will delete this one.
Problem: Factroy Delco radios suck. They are too big, malfuntions frequently, and have sound quality just below industry average. A good stereo is important if you want to attract younger buyers.
Solution: Use an outside vendor for stereos, if Toyota can do it on a $10,000 Scion, GM can do it on a $30,000 Camaro...and I am not talking BOSE eaiter. Maybe Kenwood or something. Dump Monsoon at all costs! All radios must have MP3 playback standard as this is teh big new format...I would say dump XM...the younger crowd listens to CD's, the older crowd uses regular radio. I know this will be hard for GM, but make it single DIN size so that aftermarket radios actually fit...it doesn't need a cassete player in this day and age, so it should not be necessary.

Listen you already came up with solutions to most of my compaints. Your doing a good job with this.

I just don't want a lot of BS added to it that brings the weight up. Keep it as light as possible.

1) Let's not be critical yet, we'll get the problems down and re-examine the solutions later. We want EVERYONE'S input, we want to catch EVERY percieved problem, real or not. Engineers are generally terrific at solving problems, IF you define the problem well and get them on the right track. Sometimes, they're downright brilliant...
2) Restate you mass/weight issue to read something like this:
Problem: Camaro might be too heavy.
Solution: Provide for a lightweight, low-content car (roll up windows maybe? manual seat adjusters? etc...) and use lightweight metals and composites where they make sense.
Then I'll delete this post.

- True Dual Exhaust
- The same seat quality (relatively speaking) as the Firebird.
It stunk moving to the SS and not having storage pockets in the back, or a seperate, adjustable head restraint, or lumbar support.
I will say that given their absence, the Camaro seats are still fairly supportive. - More headroom - lose the crazy windshield angle and that is easily done as the roof will tend to be higher.
- Make the rear storage area (trunk) bigger, and not so oddly shaped. Per Pacer X's prior posts, IRS would be a key here.
Live axles do not cause me any objections, however.
- If the passenger rear area can store a tire, why not have an equal size hole on the driver's side ?
- Some way to adjust the T-Tops (w/o bending brackets) to compensate for wear & looseness that creeps in over time.
- A user-friendly engine bay ! (Serviceability issues.) If the nose of the car truly acted as radiator intake, the motor & radiator could have been pulled forward.
- Bigger map pockets in the Camaro. Come on - I could put CD's in the Bird's pockets - no go in the Maro.
- Better quality plastic in the rear interior trim. That turned me off the first time I looked at my buddy's brand new ' 99 .
(Note that it did not stop me from buying, however - the LS1 took care of that.
)

Excellent! Great input!

Good one, I missed this one completely.
Please edit to Problem:Solution format and I'll blow this post away.
Problem: Nightime lighting for interior controls is inadaquate. Specificly, power window and door lock switches.
Solution: Delete the mini "spot-light" and install backlighted switches.
Problem: Inability to turn off headlights at night due to automatic headlight system. Causes problems at security checkpoints military or otherwise that direct you to turn off headlights while approaching guards so as not to blind them.
Solution: Design system to overide the auto headlight system when headlight switch is placed in the off position.

I know this doesn't follow proper format for this thread, but I honestly think that GM really only needs to do 3 things to make the car a much better seller:
-Make it lighter (better handling, and most people- especially non-hardcore racer types, love the feel of a light car... look at cars like the Miata, etc)
-Bump up quality control as much as budget will reasonably allow. For items that cost too much to fix, improvise. Such as shorten the length of the doors a bit... this will help the 'bucket of bolts' sound most 50k+ mile camaros make when the doors shut, and will make things like windows falling inside the doors and door panels falling off much less common. Stiffening up the chassis to 2005 standards would be a big plus too, as this tends to make many of the perceived quality issues stand out even moreso (rattles over bumps due to chassis flex).
-Make it more durable. People here that take care of their car to the point of obsession get excited when they hit 150k miles. It's the talk of CZ28.com. It's not uncommon for half the car to have been replaced by 100k miles or less. We live in a modern world with a fast-paced style of life where time is money. Most people don't have the time or interest to deal with unexpected break-downs on the side of the road once every couple of months. People are starting to buy foreign more and more now, even if they wish they could have the added performance of the camaro, simply because it isn't worth the anxiety wondering "when is my car going to break down next?" GM needs to look at their design philosophy for their trucks... build it to where people expect it to last 200k miles... some will have less, some will have more. But nobody wants a 2005 model car that most likely won't see anything past 100k miles without repair bills higher than most car payments except for the extreme enthusiasts... and sales reflect that.

Several of you are suggesting improvements to convience items, that quite frankly really mean little in a performance car. I could care less if it has a cup holder, sufficient interior storage or even easy to use *****, bells and whistles. Just as long as its good looking and fast is really all I care about.
Sure A/C, power seats & windows, and leather are a nice plus, but that's about where I draw the line.
