Finally saw the 04 Grand Prix in Person

I went to the Albany auto show this past weekend and finally saw the new 2004 Grand Prix in Person. First I just want to say that Pontiac screwed up buy picking that Silver car for the GTP that they would be showing everyone, I knew from seeing the G-Force concept the at 04 Grand Prix looked good in person, the only exterior difference between the G-force an production GTP is the 19” rims.

Exterior: The Car at the show was a black GTP Comp G. This car looks good in black, it also had chrome 5 spoke 17” rims that look way better the those gay multi spoke ones on the silver car Pontiac has been showing. I also like how the production car has red painted calipers. My only complaint about the exterior is the spoiler. Many thought it looked too small in the picture, well they were right. It looks way too small in person, I guess it would be OK for the base car but the Comp G should have a bigger one.

Interior: Very nice the interior on this car looked GREAT, it was 3-tone dash with black, dark gray, and tan. The seats were tan leather. I think the problem with the silver car shown is that the dash is all gray. That kind of makes it look like one big piece of plastic, the multi colored dash is much nicer, it also had some silver trim pieces. Over all it is a huge improvement over the ’03. The paddle shifters look cool and feel pretty solid, I wish I had them on my 99 Grand Prix GT. I also like how you can drive in Black out mode using only the HUD and no dash lights, but I didn’t get to see this in action.

I think once the GXP version of this car comes out it will gain a lot more fans. 18” rims would be a plus.

The only thing stopping me from getting this car is the fact I’m addicted to RWD, that being said I will probably get an LS1 Camaro or GTO next, but if I needed a mid $20K sedan this would be my first pick.

I agree, i saw a black one as well, (displayed inside the Orlando Int'l Airport lobby of all places!) and i loved everything about the car that i saw. didnt really take notice of the spoiler, ironically, so i cant comment on that but in person, the interior and exterior of the car are GREAT. cant wait till the GXP version comes out.

Ya, those multi-spoke wheels are ugly.

Did you sit in the GTP??

I sat in one at the Cleveland Auto Show, and I think it was the most comfortable chair that I sat in at the whole show!

Not that I go by anything the mags say, but Car and Driver was very impressed with the car in the April issue. Typically they'd be the first to rip into any of the flaws. The way my future is shaping up, I'll probably end up looking at a new GP when I graduate from college.

Thumbs up

I've seen a couple of them driving around here in Michigan, and I really think that they have changed for the better.

It's a pretty sharp looking car now IMO.
