Post Falcon outsells Commodore

Less than 10 years ago, Falcon seemed unstopable. When the new V series Commodore came out and Ford mis-steped in the Falcon redesign, Holden bet it so badly, it seemed Ford of Australia might go out of business.

Now Ford's Falcon has edged back....and I really mean [i]"edged back"! It outsold Commodore by 48 cars in September!

I always thought the new Falcon looked strikingly similar to Commodore.

Typically, the fresh, new car will always sell more the the competitions version.

I will agree that Ford screwed up the last generation Falcon, and the new one finally gets them competitive. I suspect the spike in sales is due to pent up demand from Ford fans who couldn't bear to purchase the previous model.

Probably correct. But better, more 'high tech' engines like the DOHC I6 and 5.4 DOHC V8 give it an image win over the pushrod 3.8L and LS1. I also consider the Falcon to be a better looking car than the current commy (tho I still like some of them ).

Yes, well done to ford australia for winning a month in sales after a 72 months innings for Commodore.

The new model Falc BA is great , and i'm sort of glad all those fans that couldn't get into the AU , have now embraced the BA wholeheartedly..

i wonder if this will sound alarm bells at ford, "that hmmm maybe we should bring a falcon over to N/A ? " see here

I think we're all aware that novelty sell. The Falcon is the newer car, and now that they dropped the droopy styling, they've got a hit. Good for Ford.

However, I still don't know where the Falcon would fit in the U.S. range. The dying Taurus, Mazda 6 based Futura and big Five Hundred will fill the mid-sized class. That leaves the Crown Vic segment. However, will the $2,000 per unit shipping penalty for the Aussie Falcon kill this vehicle in the fleet market? I dunno.

I might suggest the Falcon as a more reasonably priced - and powered - Lincoln LS replacement. What the entry-level Lincoln has always cried out for is more room and decent grunt. Also, if the next S-Type was unshackled from its dullard American platform mate, it might become a real luxury contender.

If(!!) the falcon was to come to NA it would have to be produced there. They are currently running flatout in Aus, production capacity could not satisfy NA demand.
