F5 SS LL IV V.I.R Track time

I see the F5 SS did well in the latest C&D LL; 3.09.5 around the Grand West course, 4 seconds off the M3's time and 2 seconds off the GT500's time.

Also the T/P equipped GT Mustang ran a 3:13.3 (however it was 8 seconds better than the regular GT tested last time).

The V6 Genesis with a auto and its T/P turned out a 3:14.8 and the Nismo 370Z a 3:12.0

The ZR1 with an awesome all conquering 2:51.8

Definetly a fast track that allows high powered cars to strut thier stuff.

Yep, 4 seconds is a lot for the 2011 Mustang Track Pack to make up. I think the Mustang will win all the subjective measures and skid pad numbers, but when it comes to actual track times, the Camaro doesn't do too bad. The two cars might be closer than you would think in 2011.

This is the second test with actual Track Times that comes to mind where the Camaro ran faster laps than the Mustang GT Track Pack. For all the Mustang's praise, has their even been a comparo where the Mustang posted faster lap times?

I'm also VERY surprised the Nismo 370z wasn't faster.

Way to go Chevy!

From all I can remember reading the Camaro has always lapped faster than the t/p GT . The general sumation is though , around a track the Camaro is just not a fun car to drive and the GT is . Seems to be the theme , not just one persons thoughts .

You know the car that continually amazes me every time?

BMW M3 (3:05.4)

Straight lines or curves, undulations or varying levels of surface grip, it always impresses with consistently quick times.

What a machine!

It seems like the Camaro is being bludgeoned around the track by it's marvelous LS3 and great Brembos.

Kind of like a big, heavy, powerful F-4 vs a light, agile MIG-21.

This time around though, the MIG-21 is getting upgraded and going to "Top Gun" school, not the F-4.

Charlie, did you mean F-14 (Tomcat)?

It was the F-14, not the F-4, that was the Top Gun plane of fame.

The F-4 was there first.

The movie Top Gun made the F-14 famous though.

Damn it, I should have wikied it or something first. I figured that might be the case.

I'm just too young to remember the Phantom having been a Top Gun plane...

Yeah, but that MIG-21 (Mustang) has 4 seconds to make up and that's if the F-14 (Camaro) doesn't see any improvements like a Track Pack of its own.

The MIG-21 is going to need to be the Iceman of TopGun to really put a whooping on the F-14.

Currently the F-14 is in a 4G inverted dive with MIG. At what range you ask, oh about 3, maybe 4 feet. Just keeping up foreign relations.....you know, giving them the bird. You know, the finger. Yes, I KNOW the finger.

The Camaro doesn't have to be worried just yet, but if it gets too cocky and rests on its laurels, it could get caught in the Mustangs jet wash and have to eject Mother Goose into the cockpit!!!!

Oh we're going with the F-14 analogy? Then maybe the MIG-21 should be a MIG-29.

Anyway, in that case the MIG-21 gets a radical increase in thrust to weight ratio, a larger load out of air to air missiles, a far more powerful targeting radar, advanced leading edge slats and the F-14 gets ...ermm... a convertible top .

And that rag top will look good too

But, I hope that GM does put out a track pack for the SS, if it makes it more "fun" for the people who want to race it.

Did you read the article? The brake pads glazed over and caused a catastrophic failure. Nissan is responding with an optional track pad upgrade. Some people think that the track pads will be standard on the Nismo.

This is fun. I think the best comparison of figher aircraft to Camaro/Mustang analogy would be the 2010 Camaro SS as the early Vietnam (non-cannon equipped) F4 vs. the 2010 Mustang GT as the lesser known MiG 19 and the 2011 Mustang GT as the MiG 21.
