Extended Cab
Just a mild rant:
I'm not sure what GM's plans are for the New Colorado and Canyon pickups other than the possible engines, but I certainly hope that they offer regular cab 4x4's.
As far as I can tell from the amount of research I've done, you can only get a short/regular cab 4x4 from Dodge. If you want a 4x4 model in any light truck, you better get used to extended cabs. You used to be able to get them from GM, Toyota, Ford/Mazda, etc.. Now I understand that an extended cab is extremely useful and I'm fine with that, but I just like the looks of regular cab trucks.
I guess it's just one more thing that is slowly getting weeded out in todays trends.

Edit: Just realized that I'm a 'Prominent Member.' They must not know me that well.

Similar Situation... I ordered a new (1997... few years ago) S-10 ZR2 4x4 reg cab...
I know that you havent been able to order ZR2 in anything but Extended Cab for at least a few years now...
With all the configurations of trucks they offer, you'd think they'd offer packages with whatever cab/bed you wanted...

ZR2. That's the truck I'd probably want, if it was available.
I would love to get the Toyata Tacoma in a reg. cab, but they've stopped making them, and to add a knockout punch, they were only available in the States any ways.
Darth, do you have pics of your Monte yet?

I see a white monte everyday here in town when I'm getting the mail, so it's okay. Also, My Dad has a black SS.

I'll try to find the pics... I'll send them to ya
I pointed out this same problem with the extra cab on the new Silverado SS a while back, but it never got much attention.
When you think about the ultimate expression of a truck, you don't think of a silly-looking extra cab, you don't think about having room for groceries or kids or any of that new-fangled stuff being thrust upon us. Performance trucks should be designed with minimalism and functionality in mind. I can't think of anyone who needs all that extra weight in a performance truck. Hell, at least give the option of regular OR extended. Maybe I missed something and they're going to do this.
I don't know a lot about the particular V8 version going in it, so I give them the benefit of the doubt on that. I read in some places that the 345HP is "underrated", so we'll have to wait and see. But the mandatory extra cab will definitely keep away a big chunk of potential buyers.
Looks like Silverado SS will be to Lightning what Marauder is to Impala SS. Close..? Not close enough. I'm sure it will sell but it'll be a disappointment to purists.

I wasn't aware of the Silverado SS having the same problem. But I can't understand why on earth a regular cab is being fizzled out of so many vehicles. To me, a truck is a regular cab 4x4.
I'm very close to converting over to Dodge, truck-wise, if I have to.
I don't get it.

Don't go to Dodge yet. Wait until the Colorado comes out. Surely they will make a reg cab, SWB, 4X4! Of course, a few years ago we said surely they won't stop making Camaros!
Hey Dax, good to hear from you again.
I have considered waiting for the debut of the Colorado/Canyon. In fact, there was a concept picture that looks pretty good. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. After thinking about Dodge for a while, I finally came to my senses and realized that I must have been out in the middle of nowhere to have actually thought that.
I think now is the time to sit tight with what I've got. But that's not a guarantee.

That picture of that Colorado looks good. The spy pic at the bottom makes the truck look quite a bit bigger than the current S-10. That is the biggest gripe I have with the newer S-10's, they have no space inside. That's why I own a 91.
Good to here from you too Jeff.
