Exciting GM news
All of the following is in the latest motortrend:
- the 05 C6 corvette will get a facelift as early as the 06 year to allow for some changes that Bob Lutz wants made to the car, meaning the 05 could be a very rare machine.
- The cadillac XLR is rumored to be in line for the twin turbo version of the 4.6 L northstar v8 (as a special performance version) with the goal rumored to be north of 450 horsepower.
- GM's performance division will put out a V8 Grand Prix. The engine will be an all-new multivalve V8, said to be less than 4.0 L, yet making 300+ HP, with variable valve timing. It will debut within a year of the base grand prix model.

Very good news indeed! I thought the V8 W body was out though. But then this isn't the XV8 engine of 4.3 liters. Its something smaller. The Corvette will be incredible no matter what. There is so much hype and technology going into that machine and with the enthusiasm of GM behind it, I can't see how they can mess it up, especially with Lutz at the helm.
I had not thought of this before, but why couldn't they do the Impala SS with the Aurora V8, the engine can't cost more than a S/C 3800, and the R&D has already been done. Even though HP and 1/4 times will be about the same, I think people would rather say they have a V8 under the hood, than a S/C V6, I know I would rather have the 4.0L V8

The Aurora V8 is GOBS more expensive than the S/C 3800 - even with the supercharger.
3 more cams, a butt-load more valvetrain components, a sleeved aluminium block...
If I remember correctly, Auroras used the 4T80 transaxle, and I know the S/C 3800 uses the 4T65 - so there could be a lot of cost there too.

Translation: the 05 C6 is OOOGLY!

Translation: floor it and torque steer your way into major front end damage.
Sorry to be negative, but GM needs to pull its head out of its rear end. And fast.

Seriously, if the TT XLR comes out it would probably be the best thing Caddy could possibly produce. Not from the production numbers, but imagine the attention it would draw to Caddy, esp if it easily goes head to head with the 911 Turbo, F360, Z8, etc etc...

If the '06 Corvette restyle is true, then why was the '05 Corvette postponed a year for restyling (it was supposed to be out in 2004 initially)?
If transmission problems kept the next GTP from making more than 250hp, does this mean GM finally found a way to fix this (even though Cadillacs have been making over 300hp through a FWD transaxle for years)?

I am guessing they changed the easy stuff first, and for the next MY they changed the harder stuff.
Pacer X has your answer to the tranny question. Caddy use the same V8 transaxle that the Aurora does. Not sure if it will bolt to the 3800.

That sounds almost too good to be true. Do it GM, (and make the car better looking while you are at it.) Caddy will then have quite a Halo Car, for a lot cheaper than the Cien.

The Regal was postponed for just a year, yet I understand it went through an almost complete redesign. Any idea what the harder stuff is?
