In terms of Camaro's competition, Genesis Coupe, Mustang, and Challenger offer a nav system.

While Camaro is still new to market and selling strong, its small things like the lack of similar accessories that will start to eat away at future sales.

 

Could be. But this is a problem not isolated to Camaro. GM as a whole apparently does not believe in traditional navigation.

I want to scream every time GM marketers tell us that OnStar is just as good. No, it is not. People want the map in front of them.

 

Chevy Cruze has it too, but I still probably would get the option. Too much money for factory Nav.

 

Even the 08 Tiburons had it as an option.

 

No way I'd think about blowing $1500 on a nav system in my car. Hell, I don't even use a Garmin / Tom Tom portable nav unit. Just paper maps, along with Google Maps or similar for specific directions.

I can see getting a portable sooner or later. I've used them before, and they are pretty handy. And WAYYY cheaper than an OEM unit.

 

I agree with you, but again, at least offer factory Nav as an option. For whatever reason people will pop for it.

I have a $200 TomTom that I bought about a year and a half ago. It has been a lifesaver on these recent business trips I've had to take.

 

You know, I thought that the OnStar Turn by turn was kind of a cheap way out, but now having it in my new Malibu, I love it! While there is no map, its very accurate.
Now GM needs to intergrate it into a real screen-based navigation and incorperate the OnStar/Sat Nav combo together like in the CTS.

The Malibu didnt get Navi because marketing said that most people would just buy a TomTom or something else, so it did think that even offering it would be a good idea.
GM's marketing ruled engineering and design for a while. Now we have one guy that handles it all...amazing.

 

No factory nav was a BIG reason I did not get the Malibu and bought a Fusion instead (also the Malibu did not have Bluetooth at the time as well....that has been fixed in newer models).

I will say that the next car I get will not have factory nav. Because it is "factory", that means the nav system has to conform to government guidelines (cannot input address driving over 3 MPH). It becomes a PITA. I'll get a separate Garmin or Tom Tom next time, maybe an expensive head unit to put it in the dash (I love the indash look)

 

Ah...the glory of Turn By Turn hands free OnStar directions. Be it at 4 or 94mph, I can get directions...

A lot of people like NAV. I think it is in the cards for Camaro..but a year ow two out. It will be interesting to see how they implent it. The current radio seems to have the guts and LCD of what is in the Equinox/Lacrosse, but the controls are different. Looking at the Camaro IP..asside from a pop up screen, I am not sure how you would do it without redesigning everything. On another note, backup sensors are now a forced option on Camaro.

Turn by turn directions is no different then listening to directiosn from your wife. It think's it;s right, but there is that 3% of the time it is not, and will screw you.

 

Ahahaha...well I havent been in trouble yet.

 

Case and point, just last night I heard a story of a 50 yr old BMW owner. He really likes the new camaro. He had one as a kid but, wants a navigation system. To me its not important. However, many do prefer it. Why not itegrate the radio, HVAC and nav into one touch screen?

 

I don't understand why GM would not offer a nav system in EVERY car it sells. There HAS to be a decent profit to be made at the price these go for.... so why not offer it?

I actually would like to have a nav system in my next car.... (though I do not mind the OnStar nav setup, but I do think having the map in front of me woul dbe a nice feature.... )

The problem I have is that I can get a PREMIUM portable Nav setup from Garmin or whatever for like $500-$600, and take it with me in whatever car I choose... so what is the point of spending around $2000 to have one that is 'locked in' to the dashboard of a given car?

I suppose it might have a bit larger of a screen...

But, what am I missing here? Why the huge difference in pricing?
