Regardless of retro to the extreme, that Challenger is going to sell like hot cakes.

Sure, it has a 3 box design, but in person it looks futuristic.

Just making a vehicle retro isn't going to make it an instant hit. The Challenger feels too much like rehashed charger and even 300C. It's hard to generate hype the 3rd time you release a new revision of essentially the same thing.
"Feels" too much like a rehashed Charger and 300C?
You beat me to the test drive or something?

What merits? We know next to nothing about it except it looks like; and that's what I'm saying... they like the look. The retro look is appealing to that generation, especially. But GM did it with an extra 'kick' with the modern touches, which I think was a very good decision.
Merits of design. Everyone who was at the unveiling can tell you the attention and the overheard comments from press as well as other maker's reps there. Camaro seems to be winning every design poll around (that I've seen, anyway).

The idea of the looks of the car appealing to just baby boomers is like saying the look of the new Mustang or Beetle appeal to baby boomers. Both car's domographics are on the young side. Not as low as Civics and Cobalts, but low.

PT Cruisers, on the other hand....

That's what emotive designs do... they blur the lines between one's loyalty to a particular marque and a nameplate that is openly desirable. If it appeals to BMW loyalists, then it strikes a chord that is missing in a BMW.

I want Camaro to be a 'world' car - I believe the car has as much chance as Corvette of appealing to loyalists of different brands.

Me too, I keep telling my GF she should get a X3 (she wants a small SUV) but her budget is only $20K

....I'd say for the most part I'm a guy who likes anything RWD as long as it is styled right.
