Depending if the metric ton or the US short ton was used. I used metric, but you're right, they probably used the short ton.

This difference of systems is unbelievably retarded.

Metric is spelled "tonne"

Re: Even the batmobile has an outdated pushrod GM V-8 engine

I personally like the more gritty, down to earth style they're trying to use for this movie. I think all of the wacked out original Batman movies were complete garbage... I kinda dig the new batmobile, yeah it's ugly but it's a big mean SOB whereas the other more comic inspired ones were just plain lame...

IGN had this to say about the new batmobile in their glowing review of the new movie:
The Batmobile certainly deserves special mention. It is indeed a character of its own in the film. When fans first saw the stealth-like look of the new vehicle, radically different from any of the other previous, ultra-slick incarnations, they complained and complained. I heard statements like "stupid-looking" and "ridiculous." Many felt it was just too different from the vehicle seen in the previous films or in the comics. Well, prepare to be proven wrong. The new Batmobile is the best Batmobile of all. It is one bad *****-******. For once, this is a Batmobile that makes sense. It's tough and functional. Period. It can race through city streets, knock any obstacle out of its way, smash through walls, leap across rooftops and more. Why would Batman drive around in a sleek sports car if all he is concerned about is ridding the streets of criminals? This new Batmobile is more military vehicle than sports car, which makes sense in the context of this origin film. Batman needs a car that can achieve results, not a car he'll look cool in. There is a simply incredible chase scene with the new vehicle and if that sequence alone doesn't convince you, well sir, you are beyond reason.

Holy old post Batman!!

Ha ha! Dug this up out of the dead thread bin, eh?

But to answer the question, most definitely gotta be an LS1!!

So since I didn't see "Batman Begins" yet, I'm assuming this was the Batmobile that was used?

I've heard it described as a '350' too, although a lot of people don't realize the LS1 is 346 and when they hear '5.7 litre' or even 'small block Chevy', they reflexively say "350". But logically, I would bet it's an old Gen I as that is an engine those car makers would be familiar with and it would be cheaper and easier to build.

That batmobiles history site said that it made 500hp, so maybe 450hp was at the wheels?

And I have no problem believing that just 450hp could make a car that hooks up that well (44" tires) and tops out at 110mph could run 0-60 in under 6 seconds. My car is 1000# lighter and makes 100-150hp less was able to do 0-60 in under 5 seconds

Re: Even the batmobile has an outdated pushrod GM V-8 engine

That fullsize batmobile in batman begins actually made that 30 foot jump through the waterfall and landed without busting anything.

What does that tell you?
Some guy out there can make a 2 ton monster with the aerodynamics of a brick, and the rotatonal weight of a ferris wheel. Throw a 350 in it. Have it out accelerate most v8's, make a 30 foot jump, and land on an IRS that doesn't break.
And GM can't
