Drove a LS2 SSR

It doesn't really count though cause i just checked it in off the trailer and drove it into the dealership. I might have drove it a little longer if i knew it was a LS2 It says 390hp on the sticker. It sounds pretty good

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

Any guesses on whether it'll be as quick as the 99-04 gen Lightning?

Whatever happened to the Silverado SS btw? Haven't heard anything on it in a while. Any plans to transplant the ls2 and 6spd combo into them as well?

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

Since it weighs as much as the Gen II Lightning, and has significantly less torque, I wouldn't think it would be as quick. 01+ Lightnings typically dyno around 350-360rwhp and 410-420rwtq. The Lightning weighs 4670lbs.

I guess you can use that as a basis of comparison.

Hope that helps.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

I still think the SSR will be able to be faster than the Lightning...maybe not as quick in the 1/4, but I KNOW the SSR has less drag and frontal area than the Lightning.

What are the gear ratio's like for each car? That matters as much as anything.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

The Lightning has 3.73 gears from '01+ and 3.55's from 99-00. I have no clue what the SSR has.

The biggest thing is, torque moves mass. Frontal area only becomes an issue at higher speeds. High torque is what moves fat as*ed vehicles like the Lightning and the SSR.

The high torque output of the L is part of the reason why it is so close to the Ram SRT-10 in the quarter........... despite having 120 less hp. While the Ram is 480lbs heavier than the Lightning, its rwtq is only about 40lb ft higher than the Lightning. Yet, 1/4 mile times show them to be around .2-.3 different.

Look at the C6 Vette, with the LS2. 3300lbs and 12.7 in the quarter. The SSR weighs 1400lbs more.

I'm not saying it won't be as fast.......... just that I don't see it.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

I'm not saying that the SSR should be quicker than the Lightning (unless its insanely geared, which I doubt once gas milage is put into consideration), but it should be faster (top speed) than the Lightning. I agree 100% on the torque thing though.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

will the 6 speed SSR be faster (top speed) than the RAM-SRT10? it has the aerodynamic advantage.

A limited edition fixed roof that is a few hundred pounds lighter and few thousand $ cheaper that is also faster than the SRT-10 would be a great way to bring some cheap positive press to the SSR.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

It might be faster uptop, but i was thinking more along the lines of 1/4 mile. I don't expect it to run mid 13's like the L's, but anything slower than high 13's would be kind of a dissapointment imo considering the hefty price. Still, it is a big improvement over the previous 300hp 5.3 version.

Any news on the possiblity of the Silverado SS getting a sub-400hp Ls2 and a T56 as well?

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

Just to let you know, the top speed of the L is 147mph, and the Ram SRT-10 is 155mph.

A question though, what tires are they putting on the SSR's??? This will determine whether or not they limit the top speed.

Also, to let you know, the standard cab Ram SRT-10 weighs 5150lbs.

As for the Silverado SS.......... who knows. GM doesn't seem to know what they want to do with those. Also, they weigh as much as the Ram SRT-10 (around 5200lbs) in current form, so I don't know if they would put the manual in them. A manual would pretty much eliminate the towing capacity, which is one of the bragging points of the Silverado SS. The clutch in the Ram is a major weak point............ and the combination of the T56 with that clutch are the reasons the Ram has ZERO towing capacity.

Just some food for thought.

News is that Silverado will get the same LS2/6spd combo as will the Tblazer.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

Man i had no idea the SSR was that heavy? How on earth did GM manage to build a 2-seater that weighs like 900 pounds more than 5-seater a GTO?

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

Well, lets see..
First off, the GTO is 3700lbs. Adding 900lbs to that doesnt get me 5k...it gets me 4600lbs.
Next, its built of a much stronger truck chassis.
Add on a hard top vert with all its mechanicals, as well as the sheetmetal which is very extensive and very sexy IMO.
Throw in some more creature comforts that go along with a 45k roadster...wham.
And the GTO is a 4seater.

Re: Drove a LS2 SSR

The SSR doesn't have as many creature comforts as the GTO

But yea, that hard top 'vert and the chassis are what make the SSR a pig. But a very sexy pig
