Dream 5th Gen ....

There hasn't been much 5th gen conversation the last little while so I thought to get some going.

Assuming you're in this forum because you're waiting for a 5th gen, what would your dream 5th gen be, and how much would you expect to pay for it?

I'll start:

- MY 2009
- Hugger Orange
- convertible with integral tonneau
- DOD 5.3 300 - 350 HP
- AWD
- 6 speed manual
- heated cloth seats

I expect to pay somewhat north of $40,000 for a fully loaded version of this package.

From our base in Manitoba we've been as far as Kentucky, southern Ontario, NW California and British Columbia with the current SS. My dream is to see Canada and the U.S. from St. Johns, Newfoundland to the Florida Keys to the Baja Peninsula and Anchorage, Alaska with our next Camaro.

-No larger than SN95 Mustang.
-World class chassis dynamics.
-Drop dead gorgeous looks, to be acknowledged by more than just the resident CZ28.com cheerleaders.
-A joy to own and drive.

Commenting on the above suggestions:

- convertible with integral tonneau
I’d have to see it first.

- DOD 5.3 300 - 350 HP
DoD? Yes. 5.3L? Too small. 6.0L or nothing.

- AWD
Not on a Camaro, NEVER! Nothing against AWD... it's just not a "true" Camaro if its on there... EVEN IF ITS ONLY AN OPTION.

- 6 speed manual
Definitely. I’d also like to see the new 6 speed Auto as an option.

- heated cloth seats
Heated cloth? Ok, but I want leather in mine.

-No larger than SN95 Mustang.
Yes and no. Yes, overall size and dimensions. No on the cockpit. The SN95 Mustang is too damn small on the inside to fit man-sized humans.

-World class chassis dynamics.
Define “world class”. Yes it has to handle like a “Camaro”, however that doesn’t necessarily mean IRS.

-Drop dead gorgeous looks, to be acknowledged by more than just the resident CZ28.com cheerleaders.
Ditto

-A joy to own and drive.
Ditto

For me it has to scream “Camaro”. However, NO RETRO! It needs to be evolutionary with styling cues from previous generations, ala C6 Corvette.

As I see it, coupe and convertible? Given. Base V6 and high performance V8 SS? Given. However, I’d also like to see a Z06 inspired low production, limited edition Z28… for those of us that want the ultimate Camaro canyon carver.

Hmmmm, Ok...I haven't dropped any hints in awhile...since they seem to **** some people off.

World class, as in handling dynamics like an M3. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, you need an IRS for that.

Not really the intent of the topic.

When you lay awake nights dreaming of YOUR 5th gen, what are the dominant characteristics?

MINE has AWD because of days like THIS.

ignore those people and post for those that do want to hear about them like me

I don't get it.. if someone doesn't like hints on a message board, just ignore them.. sounds simple..

Personally I love it when people dro hints here and there even though sometimes I'm a little slow and don't get them immediately.

Re: Dream 5th Gen ....

In addition to the above or in place of...

- T-Tops or a removeable roof panel (ala Covette) for helmet clearance

- Z28 option for track use (beefy rear limited slip, option of 3.42 or 3.73 gears), seats with purposeful lateral support and head restraints that allow shoulder belts to run through the seat.

-6-speed

-keyless entry and HUD

-Light weight engine for better chassis dynamics (i.e: if an all aluminum 5.3L mill could be significantly lighter than a 6.0L+ while putting out close to or the same power, that's what I'd be looking for).

-evolutionary to revolutionary styling. I want it to look like a Camaro, but definately not look like what's already been here.

-short(er) front and rear overhangs. I'd sacrifice a slightly longer front overhang for a pointed, bullet tip type nose (similar to the LT-1 cars).

-strut tower brace

-same A-pillar rake, but the base of the windshield moved back.

-aluminum or color keyed interior accents including the gauge faces

-some controls on the instrument bezel, like the 300Z, '90 Grand Prix, Beretta, etc

Dude I live in Canada and we have a 99 z28 camaro. It gets around just fine in the winter when you slap on a pair of really good winter tires and load the trunk up with sand bags.
Of course you wouldnt have to do any of this if you just had awd.

Been there, done that. Would you like to see those pictures?

When you're on a trip in November that includes, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and north-west California, with a 3 day stop at the Bragg-Smith driving school, and you really want to try your car on the track at Bragg-Smith, the decision to leave home on steelies and winter tires or BFG KD's isn't all that easy. For 15 of the 17 days the KD's were the right choice.

So you'e saying the next 5th gen should/will have the chassis/suspension and overall handling dynamics of an E46 M3? That's no small task and would give the vette a serious run for its money.

I'd welcome that. On top of the things already mentioned, i'd also welcome a Targa top.

That can be YOUR dream.

Mine is $40K because fully loaded includes:
- HUD & Nav
- Dual Zone Automatic Climate Control
- Full power driver and passenger seats with memory.
- blow the roof off sound system (much more difficult on a 'vert) with CD and MP3.
- Keyless ignition.
- the aforementioned AWD, which yours probably doesn't have.

The stuff Z284ever listed are givens in my dream.

40k is still too much for even all that.

Let me make this clear he is probably saying the M3 is the benchmark for performance of the 5th gen. He also said IRS is required to do that so IRS will at least be optional according to his sources.
