Kinda off topic, but I'll take a 14 second 200X car over a 10 second 198x or lower car in a second. The problem with alot of people on this board is if it doesn't run xx.xx in the quarter it's worthless. For example, GTO that thing could have 260 horsepower and still be worth 30k... The Jaguar X-type must also be worthless because it runs what 16's 17's but cost over 35k with options... this is why there is always a problem with any new car that comes out on this board... the majority of cz28.com don't understand the concept of luxury, quality, etc. It's all about speed. My T/A is a POS and I'll admit it. If I could do it again I'd buy a CTS or a 350z just for quality.... sorry for the rant, not flaming any individual person just camaro owners as a whole

Yup, the consideration power and speed are pretty high up in the percieved value of a car here.

If the CTS, 350Z, STi, Evo, even the SRT-4 were out in 99 when I was getting my Camaro, I would have heavily considered those too, although they would probably be another 5-10,000 more than the Camaro.

But they weren't..

Fast foward 4 years, I actually don't mind that GM finally retired the F4, but what I hate is they didn't make a F5..

Its funny you say that.Ford isnt trying it is winning. If you look at things in Fords shoes all the Cobra has to do is beat the standard Corvette in the 1/4.Which it does now.It is quicker open and shut case...Now on the other hand the Z06 has to contend with the GT-(40) which is a whole other bag of worms and I wont sit here and speculate on who will beat who thats why I read magazine tests and come to a conclucion that way..And the GTO is nothing (as per the facts that are out there right now)for what Ford is going to be offering,So to say "Blame Ford for trying to compete" is a bit unworthy. And the sport compact market Ford and GM are slipping (take the Subi owned comments and dispense in the garbage plz)

The Cobra beats the Z06? How did you come to this conclusion? Atleast in stock trim the Z06 will run circles around a Cobra on the track. Take a look at the 00' Cobra R, that couldnt even keep up with the 01' Z06 and the new s/c Cobra weights another 100-200lbs more. Also the Z06 is in the 11s with tires in stock trim. I have a hard time seeing the Cobra keeping up with it. Ford has been trying to get the Cobra to compete against the Corvette for a few years now and the Cobra will never really be a good competitor to the Corvette bcuz it is 2 differnet people the cars are marketed to.

Did I say Z06?NO I SURE DIDNT.I said "STANDARD" vette. And as heavy as the Cobra is it does quite well against the Corvette..I know the Z06 is marketed to a different buyer then a lets say a Mustang GT,But the Cobra IS in the same catergory as the Corvette/Z06.

BUT like I was trying to say ALL Ford has to do is beat the standard vette in any catergory (like the 1/4 where "most" measure) and as long as the price stays below a vette they have alot to brag about.

I still dont see how you compare a Cobra against a standard Corvette. Its a 2 seater vs a 2+2. I know they are in the same price range but, to me atleast, it is 2 different sectors of the market. Besides if it was me I'll take the Corvette anyday.

Trying to compare a Cobra to a Vette is like trying to compare a Camaro to a Vette. CObra is about muscle, Vette is fiance (sp?).

A Vette is fine tune to give the driver the modern luxuries of high priced exotic cars with lower prices. Where as a Cobra is still a muscle car, all about power and nothing about convience of driving a powerful car.

Yes that is all true BUT the Cobra is still cheaper and even though it doesnt out perform in every catergory it still gets the respect it deserves due to there being nothing else american to compare it too.Now I wont sit here and "try" and say the Cobra if far more modern then the Vette Id be making a fool of myself.

I don't see anybody complaining about the 660hp Ferrari Enzo or the 612hp Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG.

So why would they complain about a "merely" 500hp Corvette?

Oh yeah...
