I ask because of the issues with the current CTS gearbox self destructing. Also does anyone know if the whole rear seat will fold down?

You mean the well-known rear diff problems with the CTS-V? Only complaints with the VZ's (and the GTO) are diff whine (it's a Dana Australia part). VE is way different, supposedly...

Gearbox or diff? I have heard of 1 6L80 failing which locked up the rear wheels. As for the Diff, Holden use a ZF diff, Dana are not used in the VE. It is supposed to be much better and stronger than the Dana. The LSD unit is meant to be a significant improvement over the Dana. Mines great so far

The weak part in the Commodore's drivetrain is the automatic tranny.... the same trannie I ranted about in the Camaro section that the CHP had issues with.

The engine hasn't had issues (the same that we use here), the diff is stronger, and so is the IRS.

Remember, Holden had the option of using the Sigma for their new-gen Commodore, and blew it off. Instead, they spent a billion of their own money (far more money spent developing any car for Australia) to create the VE.

It's worth noting that it's not GM-NA's Sigma that's pointing to the future, but it's the GM-Holden based VE.

Do the VE's only come automatic-equipped? Is there a manual option?

The 3.6L HFV6 comes with either a 4 speed auto (base models), 5 speed auto or 6 speed manual (sports model). The L98 6L V8 comes with either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto.

guionM, which auto are you talking about? there are a few to choose from....

I was refering to the rear differential. I guess the gearbox would be the transmission? Maybe I got my terms mixed up. I REALLY like hearing the ZF diff is stronger.

The manual is better? Is it a specific Automatic?

So is G8 superior to the CTS? I like the G8 more. The CTS just looks like an all out luxury Mercedes style where as G8 looks BMW type performance luxury
