Dodge Rumble Bee.....

Since everyone is in DCX mania right now.....I thought I would actually pay attention when we drove by the Dodge dealer today. This is a local one about medium sized.......

I noticed a few things that stood out immediatly....

First off was this sign.....

Up to $7,000 of EVERY 2004 Durango![/b]
Now this stood out to me as crazy since the Durango is all new....then it hit me....the Up To...... part.

I would be pissed if I went in there.

Then up front they had at least 5-10 Rams, and they all were yellow, with black stripes. At first I thought they were SRT-10's....then I noticed on the side they had a decal that said "Hemi Rummble Bee"...

At this point I am laughing hysterically...then I saw a Green one, and this one was called the "Heminator"...or something like that....

At that point the light turned green and we kept going...just thought I would share.

I must say though that the Dodge dealer is much more interesting that the Chevy dealer here...which is the largest in the Baltimore area. There whole street front (and it is on a busy highway), is loaded with Astro Vans, old style Blazers, and a new C5, and used C5, and a used C4....

It's true.

I ordered one afew weeks ago. There are currently up to $4500 in rebates on Durangos. And if you play your cards right, you can get one for invoice or slightly under and combine that with the rebates.

The Durango is for my wife. As some of you know, I'm NOT too much into trucks. I wanted another minivan. My wife wanted an MDX or a Lexus GS470 ($$$$$).

We compromised and ordered a Hemi Durango SLT. I guess marriage is about compromise.
Depending on when it comes in, ( and last time I tracked it, it was built 1 week ago and is on a railcar somewhere).....I'm getting mine for $3800-$4800 under invoice.

Rumble Bee's are a nod to the Super Bee's of the past... they use a similar name and a similar logo and stripes...

I'm not a truck guy, but I think they are pretty cool looking for trucks....

FWIW, you can get them in yellow with the black stripe, or black with a yellow stripe.

They're also only available in regular-cab, short-box configuration. If you want a quad cab Rumble Bee, you're out of luck, although you could move into the Hemi Sport quad cab which is relatively equivalent to the Rumble Bee - albeit with neither the stripe package, nor the limited colour palette that is available.

I kinda pity the guys who buy the retina-burning yellow version who'll spend a great deal of time, I suspect, cleaning lots of dead insects from the massive frontal area those trucks have.

Didn't Dodge have a colour called Bug Yellow back in the early 70's aptly named beause it was a magnet for bugs?

I'd seen the Rumble Bee commercial but no mention of the Heminator. Hmmmm. There's a Dodge dealer less than two blocks from my home.

Those things were delivered in Mass Quantity to the Dodge dealer in Tolleson Arizona last fall.

If you want to see how outreagous cars were at changeover from the 60s to 70s, the "Rumble Bee" and the "Heminator" are perfect examples.

Eye burning colors & ridiculous names. "Super Bee", "Road Runner" (after a kid's cartoon for chrissakes! ) "The Judge" (imagine a car named after a skit off of Mad TV), Cobra decals featuring a snake with wheels, something called a "Demon" (complete with cartoon devil), the "Heavy Chevy", a car actually called a "Superbird"!

Lots of psychadellic drugs back then, ya know.

thats one big *** minivan!!!

I still dont see the minivan in the Durango? I think it looks awesome. Sometimes when I see one, I think that Dodge might have gone a bit over the top with all there trucks and SUV's.

I wish! I think minivans are great.
If you have to haul a bunch of kids around...nothing else compares to a minivan. Lots of space. Lots of utility. Ease of use. Big sliding doors, so kids can jump in and out, ( instead of having to fold over SUV seats to get into the third row).
Drives and handles like a car...with car like mpg.

The Durango is a big honkin' truck.

Like most trucks of it's size, it barely has the space of a much smaller minivan. It has much less utility than a minivan. It drinks gas. It costs more than a minivan. It sucks up space in your garage, like a black hole.

The minivan that my Durango will be replacing....was the best damned vehicle I've ever owned.

i just saw those last week. i first saw a yellow one on a transporter truck and thought it was an SRT-10. then later found out it was a Rummble Bee. a local dealership has about 4 of them. 1 plum crazy purple, 1 lime green, 1 yellow, 1 black, 1 orange. i have to say they are pretty sweet looking.

a local pontiac/gmc dealership has a couple modded sierras too. one is black with red stripes and has full exhaust, aftermarket brakes, white face gauges, aftermarket wheels. the other has the same setup but was red with black stripes. they want 40k for them!

and they have......

and this is a shocker......

a GTO.....

with a $3500 "Special Limited Edition Vehicle" markup.

Hmmm, just checked both the Canadian and American Dodge sites and the only colours the Rumble Bee is offered in are black and solar yellow. I had previously mentioned that the truck was available in only two colours, but that could have been a just-in-Canada-thing. Not so.

thats odd....cuz i personally got out of my car and looked at them up close. the dealership i was at had the orang eand green ones out front near the road and then up by the doors they had the plum purple one. they even have matching steering wheels. could it be a different package then?
