Dodge Razor Revival?

Left Lane News article

Anyone heard about this? Any truth to it?

Razor redux: Dodge readies Solstice-fighting roadster
Dodge is developing a rear-wheel-drive roadster to compete with the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, according to a published report citing credible sources. It will have some similarities to the 2002 Dodge Razor concept (pictured).

The new two-seater will arrive at the Geneva auto show in March, according to the the latest issue of U.K. weekly car magazine Autocar. It will fit with Dodge's performance brand image, placing it squarely against Pontiac's Solstice, the report said.

"The small sports car market is an ideal fit for Dodge," Chrysler Group design chief Trevor Creed told the magazine.

Chrysler is undoubtedly hoping the Dodge project will experience more success than the Chrysler-brand Crossfire. The two-seat roadster and coupe have been criticized for being overpriced and not competitive enough.

Yes. The Allpar crew thinks it's part of the Chery project, which is rumored to include three cars -- Hornet, a roadster, and one other.

I think the Chery project is getting confused, or lumped in, with another project....

So maybe one for the older folks and one for the kids? Us kids need a cheap fast car, maybe Dodge will try to purge this market? A stipper model/race, that is already a small car would be interesting.
GM wasn't and isn't able to produce enough Sky/Solstice. This gives DCX the room to pretty much run over a slow GM in this market.

Those Crossfire cars are awesome if you ever see one on the road. The day I saw one with that electronic spoiler the first thing i did when i got home was check the price....It was expensive, slow and 99% non-USA parts.

Tom Lasorda is on record saying that whatever happens with Chery won't include Hornet.

They discount them to hell and back....you wouldn't have a problem picking one up for WAAAY under $30k.

As for the Razor; I remember wanting one when those came out. I was single and didn't have a munhckin to cram into a backseat... They wanted to sell it for like $14k - I would have bought at that price back then.

Oh well...

For those who don't know or remember:

Uh-huh. If it looks like Hornet and is configured like Hornet but different in details and called something else, is it a Hornet?

LaSorda made clear that Chrysler will get a "B-class" car from Chery, and that Hornet is independent of whatever car they will get from deal they are currently working on.

His exact words on the subject:
"The Hornet is a great statement of our design. It is also a statement that it's something that we're going to continue to take a look at, and depending on the business case going, we'll look at that independently from this particular project."

Although he indicates that the car Chery will build will displace the Hornet for the time being, nowhere does he say Chery wouldn't build it if Chrysler decides to go forward.

In short. Stay tuned.

About the Chrysler Razor, Chrysler's product developers and marketers are in fact taking another look at it and how it can fit in with their upcoming small cars. However the feeling I'm getting (and I want to emphasize feeling, not fact) is that if made, it would be based on whatever FWD structure Chrysler's Chery built car is on.
