Dodge Charger sales: A mixed bag..... but still good.
Re: Dodge Charger sales: A mixed bag..... but still good.
I've noticed that ImpalaSS (90s RWD) prices have started sliding lately. Must be the Charger and the new Impala SS hitting the market.....Still the old Impala SS's with low mileage, in show room condition still have a premium.

It might look sportier/more athletic, but it does not look as mean, imo, as the Impala SS did.I dunno about that. Hell, the Intrepid was hugely innovative (basically a show stopper) when it came out (first gen LH cars). Very sleek styling and tons of room on their long wheelbase, cab forward design. The new car would get points for its return to RWD, but without the success of the Hemi name carried over from the truck, it would have nowhere near the success/following that it has today (LX cars in general). Granted, the 300 would still sell well, because even though it is ugly, apparently it is "attractive" or "Bentley-like" (except that most Bentleys were not hit by an Ugly missile). The wussy 235 hp (or even 265 hp) 4.7L V8 instead of the 340 hp 5.7 would drop it from ugly but potent muscle sedan to ugly and mid-pack family sedan. Lots of competing cars with V6s would have no trouble keeping up with a 265 hp but heavy LX car.

Intrepid was certainly was innovative in design. It looked like a Camaro sedan. The 300M and even the LHS were showstoppers as well. The designs of them made Chrysler serious money in the 90s.
The new Charger is by no means innovative in design. It doesn't break new ground, and I'll be the 1st to admit that. What it does do is take existing design, and old ideas (the chop top look) and created a theme that carries through. It's not meant to be a pretty or attractive car, it's meant to attract testosterone gorged Alpha men (and obviously, a few women who like those type of cars). It's meant to be a love it/hate it car. I don't know anyone who would call the LH cars ugly.
I guess we'll never know, though, unless DCX decides pull the 5.7 and drop in the stepchild 4.7.
Ford at least uses the design in different displacements, different cylinder counts, and has invested a none too small fortune on performance for thier "cammers".

GM better get moving and come up with a four door RWD V8, or risk losing more brand loyalists. I am gonna pick up a Magnum SRT8 in May of this year. Former LT1, LS1 Camaro owner.
