Hasnt been BS with me. My Cobalt started off at 24-25 mpg off the lot and is up to almost 28 city now since it hit 2000 or so miles. My Camaro always gave me 18-19 city and 30 on the highway flawlessly after full bolt ons but was about that bone stock. Both manuals but they always give me good results as far as gas goes.

question to you folks with DoD/AFM: how would you feel about a switch that allows you to manually choose which mode your engine runs in?

DoD/AFM
ON/AUTO/OFF

ON - 4 cylinders always in a 8 cylinder motor to maximize fuel economy.
AUTO - the was it is now
OFF - All cylinders used all the time.

That's a great idea, but the '07 Tahoe that I drove for a week had me wishing for a switch that would simply "hold" the V4 mode for a bit longer. It seemed like it'd kick back into V8 mode every time I even thought about pressing the gas pedal. I'm sure it's done that way to improve NVH, but I'd be willing to give up some smoothness to improve the fuel economy if it was my own vehicle.

Considering the numbers I was able to pull down with a stock LT1 B-body (Cheston, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about), the sort of economy figures that people are speaking of with the V8 W-cars is rather disappointing.

Do you think there is a learning function to the program? MAybe it has to learn your throttle habits before it will maximize AFM usage?

I thought of that a few months ago myself. I would certainly favor it.

I'm getting better gas mileage with my 5.3L Silverado than I did with my imp when it was stock. Of course, I don't really remember what kind of mileage I got with the SS 5 years ago...
