Re: Diesel Chevy Cruze news

It will be built at the Lordstown Ohio plant. GM is a global company - They've been making diesels for years overseas.

Sure it could go into the Volt. Gasoline is much more prevalent here though so it will be a while before we see that happen. Several manufacturers in Europe have diesel electric hybrid concepts.

They've been building turbo and non-turbo versions of the diesel Ecotec in Europe for years. The only thing new is the displacement.

I would take the Volt much more seriously if it were diesel. Eventually as biodiesel becomes more prevalent, there will be a day in the not so distant future that it displaces gasoline as the fuel source of choice.

You would. I take the Volt seriously because it was designed to have any power plant. Not matter of fuel source. It would run off a diesel or natural gas or just about anything.

You have to remember the gas engine is spinning at its most efficient RPM (or at least the most efficient RPM that doesn't seem too foreign to the driver). Would a diesel make that much of a difference being used like this?

I didn't realize GM had been building small diesels recently, that's encouraging. Wish they had done this sooner.

I agree, but as I said in my whole quote, gasoline as a fuel-source is on its way out.
