The thing about those setups is if you assign a reasonable dollar value to your time and include all of your other costs as well you're going to be "spending" far more per gallon than you ever would on regular gasoline.

Makes fuel for any diesel car, truck or tractor for 70 cents a gallon!
No vehicle modifications needed!

- Less than 30 minutes hands on time to make 40 gallons.

- Converts even heavily used oils and fats.

sounds good to me.

In my town one of the cheaper places has regular unleaded @ $3.529 /gal and diesel @ $3.679. That's less than a 4% difference. Diesel on average gets what 10% better fuel economy?

I guess it all depends on where you live.

They realized they weren't close to the ceiling for diesel prices, so just kept ratcheting them up because people pay it.

Of course it sounds good - it's the ad.

I'd bet that unless you're creating this stuff right out back of your very own restaurant or other direct source you'll spend hours creating that 40 gallon batch if you really account for all of the time and effort you put into it, and will spend more than 70 cents per gallon on it, too.
There's a lot that they're conveniently not factoring in or considering.

Actually most people that process used cooking oil for their own use get it for free from the resturants. However in most cases straight vegetable oil will work without filtering.

But as a whole biodiesel isn't cheaper. Locally I believe its about $3.99 /gal, which is about 20-30¢ more than petroleum diesel. However its a heck of alot greener and better for the environment. Prices would drop if more people began using it.
