A Toyota owner that frequents the gas station my dad works at wanted a Sky - the first American product he was going to buy in years. He went to the Saturn dealer, ordered it for sticker price and put $500 down. My dad said he was VERY excited to get this car. My dad told him to stop in as soon as he gets it because there has been no Skys on the road here (NJ).
The guy shows up on Saturday with a 2006 Mustang V-6 convertible (at least it was American). The Saturn dealer called him on Friday and said "I have good news and bad news. Good news your Sky came in. Bad news is that we sold it out from under you."
The dealer said that they "were so excited" that a Sky came in they forgot it was sold and sold it do someone that was in the dealership the "second it rolled off the trailer." Obviusly they found a buy who would pay over sticker for it and said screw the customer. Not very Saturn-like huh?
They offered to order the guy (no Saturn dealership would trade a Sky obviously) another Sky or give him back is deposit. Needless to say, the guy got his deposit back, went accross the street to the Ford dealership and bought a Mustang and will never look at Saturn again.
Someone has to pull the reins in on these scumbags before they ruin one of the few good things GM has going for them - Saturn dealer reputation.
And for those in NJ area, stay away from Saturn of North Brunswick.

I would have answered back to that dealer with a fat lawsuit. Failure to follow with with a contract.

As for Saturn, everything Saturn gets from now on is going to be for Opel. Saturn lost their engines, their body panels, and will no longer have their own design. Only thing left is the dealer network, the "import" reputation, and the name.
Removing a face, putting it on someone else, and disposing of the donor's body doesn't mean the original person is still alive, does it?

The Opel and Honda V6's have nothing over the GM HF so theres no loss there.

Re: The death of Saturn
The good thing about the Saturn VUE was you could get a Honda engined, Honda transmissioned (is that a word) SUV for thousands less. Most of their other stuff was pretty bland, and prices weren't attractive enough to offset the ugly factor.
Re: The death of Saturn
The thread title should read "The rise of Saturn".
For a long while I've been wondering why GM has failed to take advantage of Opel's strong product lineup in small cars... and why they just don't resort to badge engineering these excellent vehicles for the States (as does Holden in Oz
).
For too long, GM has ignored Opel in preference to forging (failed) business ties with Fiat, Subaru and Isuzu.... then there's GM's inablility to get SAAB profitable. Opel is the Chevrolet of Europe, it seems. Too little investment in enhancing product from a trusted brand.
Anyway, glad that GM (Lutz?) have finally seen the light. Hence my view that Saturn will see a resurgence in not only sales but brand recognition.
