yeah I agree.. SIMPLE and DISTINCTIVE. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Look at the 85-87 Iroc-z wheels. Deceptively simple design, and it cannot be confused for any other model, year, or make. A totally successful effort, the likes of which I haven't seen lately. I mean come on, they don't ALL have to look like minivan flower/safety wheels. And for G-d's sake, they don't all have to be a design based on 5's! Where did this come from? 90% of the cars out there have a 5-ply looking wheel. How about 4? how about 6, or multiples of small numbers, like 12, 25, 20, etc. Just because there's 5 lugnuts usually, doesn't mean all wheels have to be a 5-star design. zzzzzzz. Even late model 'vette wheels look cookie-cutter. Not the Z06, but the base wheel. The initial C5 wheel looked good, but was redesigned sometime in the middle of C5 and the redesign looks horrible, looks cheap. Although I must admit I want to see those 17/18/19 GXP wheels put into production. Those look great.

I gotta disagree - 5 is like a magic number - to me it is simply the most balanced looking arangement.

4 spokes is too few - too sparse and ghetto, 6 is too many, too cluttered. 10 looks positively crap. Just my opinion.

I do agree the IROC rims were a nice design though. And also the 3rd gen Ronal Firehawk 'deep-dish' wheels. Mmmmm.... deep.... dish...

I like the stock Z28 tips too. I kept them on w/the flowmaster muffler set up but have now ditched them w/my cat-back system.

Yeah the salad shooters are not the nicest wheels around but they're not horrible for stock. I kinda like my white stock ones but to each their own.

No doubt the ZR-1s, Firehawks, 10-Spokes, and C5 rims are tiiiight

I think the 85-87 Iroc wheel was excellent. Loved the design. Then it started getting chunky in 88 and and in 91 it was hideous.

The 4th gen should have come out with 17" ZR1 style rims. The hood and spoiler and different 17's should have been enough to distinguish the SS.

Oh, I LIKED rectangular tips. I just wanted them more visible from behind. Being black they just disappeard unless you were within 10 feet of the car.

I kinda liked the rectangular tail pipes.... If I ever get around it, I think I may put them back...

I still love the simple painted 5 spoke 17x9 with 275/45 look...

The next gen performance package should have 5 spoke powdercoated 17x11's all around, with maybe 285's up front and 315's out back.. That should nicely fill out the fenders..

To me the square tips look a little weak, i think they shoulb be big *** round tips, kinda like Mustang GT tips. I like tips like that, to me they are bad ***.

The wheels tho...omg you dont know how much i HATE my sh!tty cheap looking plastic hubcaps. If they had to do hubcaps for the v6, they could have atleast made them nice looking and not quite so obviously plastic.

Here's a little design factiod for ya...

The majority of people don't like circular designs with small even numbers arrayed around them. The human eye finds it boring. Too symmetrical. In the case of many things arrayed around a round object, the number is almost always divisible by 3 or 5 (hence, 6/10/12 spoke wheels).

This isn't just the case with wheels, either. A good chef, when presenting a meal on a plate will intentionally keep the numbers odd.

7 shrimp around a cocktail glass.
3/5/7 spoke wheels.

Look at flower petals some time. Almost always an odd number around them, or LOTS of them. Apparently bugs and birds think the same thing.

You may disagree, but do some looking around first. I think you'll be surprised.

PS - I like the 4th gen salad shooters. Needed to be 17" though.

Huh?

Am I the only one who actually likes my salad shooters? The biggest complaints are exhaust tips and rims? Two of the easiest things to swap if you don't like their looks?

I'm sorry, but there seem to be several issues that would be much further up on my list of improvements... for the 4th gen F-bodies it would start with T-tops that don't leak and leather seats that don't wear bad in the same fricking spot no matter who the driver is or how many many miles are on the car!

Exhaust tips and rims?

Oh brother.... maybe I am getting too old!
