After that, we can "look forward to" a Tremec T-56 6-speed in the base CTS. Not exactly shifting nirvana.

It pretty much stands to reason that it'll be the Tremec T-56. The Getrag unit, used in the BMW M3 and M5, is a significantly more expensive unit. Moreover, with the LS1/LS6(?) powered CTSv, you can expect Cadillac to use the same tranny as the Corvette.

The Holden Commodore and the Cadillac CTS. It's on GM Powertrain's site, and it's been mentioned in pretty much every story about 5 speed manual CTSs and Holdens .
I guess it's not too expensive for Cadillac, and Holden is not entirely all that primitive afterall if it shares a transmission with M3s & M5s.

I think they will use a different transmission.

What I am virtually certain of is the use of the Tremec gearbox. It's a cheap and strong transmission, and with the F-body dead, I'm sure this supplier has just about the right amount of capacity to satisfy the demand for the CTS/CTSv.
