These are the same people that constantly use "loose" when they should have used "lose"

I had previously stated that they may have purposely chose to spell "Cruze" with 5-letters as a counter to Toyota's "Camry" and Honda's "Civic" however I've never been able to confirm my suspicions.

Compared to past names for compact Chevy sedans, they could've done worse.

I doubt they'd bring back "Nova" after the whole "No go" fiasco.
I think the lineage is more like:
Cruze -> Cobalt -> Cavalier -> Monza ->Vega.

Citation replaced the Nova, which was then replaced by the Corsica, and then Malibu.

No question. However I was referring to the "names" of models and not the actual models themselves.

Heck, I'd fully support GM bringing back the "Monza" and/or "Vega" marques.

I mean, people think new name = fresh slate. It leaves some of the bad opinions of past models behind.

On the flip side you'll never in a hundred years see the Civic or Corolla renamed. They'd lose sales due to the positive image those cars had.

Then again Ford had big problems when they changed the name of the Taurus to the 500, and picked sales right back up when they changed 500 back to Taurus. Maybe it's just because the Taurus name has been around for so long, it was selling very well apparently on name alone, and has always ranged from extremely to moderately successful. People got confused when the name they recognized went away. Not to mention I don't think the Taurus was ever as bad of a car relative to its competition as the Cavalier/Cobalt were to their competitors. Just my .02 though.
Cobalt was better than a Civic in 2004/5, I drove/rented both and had friends with both and better than the Corolla up until the latest Corolla. GM just needed to keep up with the updates. Honda one upped them with the 2006 Civic and never looked back. Cruze should have been out as a 2009/10 model in the USA badged Cobalt. That would have given them a 5 year product cycle.

Ford was dealt the same hand as GM when it comes to small cars with the Focus, but they stuck with the name and now have the Best selling American car last month and the Focus is out selling the Cobalt YTD by 50%.

GM is dragging their feet with the Cruze so bad that 40mpg hwy in mid 2010 will be no big deal as the all new 2011 Ecoboost Focus will do the same.

cruze is easy to say and seems to have no negative connotations. cobalt has that rough T sound that takes longer to pronounce and is not as easily producable in regular conversation. after all the references I've made to cruze, it doesn't seem to have negative stigma associated with it.

I'm with everyone else on this though. GM's constant practice of investing money into a new brand is a large waste of effort. cobalt has some respect thanks to the SS and all the racing done with Ecotec; moreso though the SS is a respected entity thanks to its great performance. Cobalt's also not a bad looking car once the basic 'rental flair' fascias are modded.

I didn't care for the odd spelling of "Cruze" at first. Now I guess I've accepted it and hope the car lives up to all the hype. People were pretty optimistic about the Cobalt before it arrived, too.

I think it's a terrible name for a Car. It doesn't sound upmarket. It doesn't sound exciting. It doesn't sound engaging. It doesn't have connotations of high quality or solidity. It is not even that great to pronounce.

It just sounds cheesy and uninspired, and it makes me less interested in the car than I may otherwise be.

There are a zillion other better words they could have misspelled and used globally.
