A couple of thoughts from the NY auto show

-GM Interiors on the new redesigns are still not quite up to the better imports (still expanses of hard flexing plastic on the Escalade lower door panels, for example, as well as some mold flash in various places on other cars). However, there aren't any major flaws and they are far and above the older GM products. Even if they aren't as good, they are close and finally, competitive. It is obvious that GM is *REALLY* trying hard with their new interiors.

-Ford's new model interiors are the opposite. The styling is okay, but the plastics aren't any better than 1999 fords. Even the Navigator had expanses of hard, flimsy, cheap feeling plastics. In fact, the plastics felt worse than those in the $13,000 Honda Fit. After seeing these efforts, I'm more worried about Ford's future.

-Speaking of the Navigator, the new design is absolutely HORRID. The front end looks like something that belongs in a kitchen (and grates cheese). The rear isn't all that much better. Combined with the interior quality, this car is terrible. Prediction: This is the last navigator.

-The new "Small" cars (Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, etc.) are not really small at all. Maybe they are small compared to current cars, but not to anyone who remembers cars from the 80's and early 90's. Park one next to a 1988 corolla and you'd be surprised at how much smaller the corolla was.

-There is no better looking current production car than the Aston Martin AMV8. Period. The Z06 is still hot as ever and the new Impreza STI (sans giant rear wing) is very nice as well.

-The BMW Z4 coupe is ugly as sin. I miss the old one (of course, nobody much liked that one, either).

I think my exact words were "you will not find a better looking car, end of story."
