A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
1) Driving 15 hours straight to and from BG, only stopping for gas is a really, really stupid idea. With that said, I've done it twice since last Wednesday
And it was worth every minute of it, too.
2) GM's current crop of executives are not idiots. It would appear that now, more than ever, GM is really listening to what the consumer is looking for. I'm saying that, on THIS board, for certain reasons. Read into that what you will...
3) I'd like to repeat Scott's public message at the banquet on Saturday evening...apparently, Detroit is a BEAUTIFUL place to visit in January
Yes, I plan to be there too, if I can help it. Hey, the GP has snow tires...road trip anyone??
4) I wish more of you turkeys would show up!! I've gone 2 of the last 3 years, and the '03 event seemed to have more cars at it, but not necessarily more people. I asked the Corvette Museum staff, and apparently 200 people pre-registered, and I met several people who never registered, but just showed up anyway. Its a great event, the road tours are a blast, and let me tell you...I had the opportunity to follow Scott in the caravan of cars to the BBQ Friday night, as he drove a '93 Pace Car. There's something about watching that car, with yellow lights a-blazing on a barren KY backroad, that was just amusing as hell to me
Scott, if you're reading this, I assume that car has no cat on it? It sounds too good with the stock exhaust, but man that car stinks!!!
5) I had the great opportunity to meet Mom Settlemire herself. She walked up to my car before the caravan to the BBQ took off, and informed me that white with orange was her favorite color scheme
That was the scheme she wanted apparently, but Scott got her a red '02 instead, and put the silver on it. Either way, her 35th Anniversary "ES Edition" (Elaine is her first name, I was told) was quite cool, anyway
6) I'd like to thank Scott for taking the time to meet with Jason, Doug and myself Saturday morning...it was a real pleasure. That alone was almost worth the ride.
All I can say is, GM appears to be on the right track...and again, Detroit in January is a great, great place
Now, with that said, I'm off to wash 1,030 miles worth of road grime off the Z. Even though it didn't rain either down or back, white wheels are not conducive to that kind of torment!

Re: A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
This was the first event I have missed, still kinda of upset about it but I had to be the Best Man at a wedding...I will be down there next year again, and hope to see some of you guys down there.....
Re: A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
I really wanted to make it this year but I never checked in on the date of it and never saw any posts about it so I just kept assuming it was a while away.

I've been saying that for some time. I became convinced this past January when I was told that I'd herar alot of things in the near future, and to let the dust settle before I start slamming and don't believe everything I read.... and they were right!
3. U betcha!
4. The Camaro gathering happens in perhaps the worse time of the year, September. For those of us collecting a government paycheck, that's the end of the Fiscal year. To top things off, alot of people have just taken vacations with their family, kids are going back to school, and there are people who have just finished spending Labor Day weekend with family & friends. I know spring is a bad time (especially since Scott is still doing Auto Shows) and the Fall & Winter we're talking about unpredictable weather, but if this can be rescheduled to the summer, I think attendence whould shoot way up.
5. Cool indeed!

6. Anyone who hasn't meet Scott during one of the local Auto Shows, or his frequent "Camaro Gathering" after the shows, it should be required. Not only because he's a really excellent person to talk to (can still disagree & be friends) but he is THE point man to bring your opinions about future Camaros to the guys who are actually creating the thing (keeping in mind that changes may be limited because the car "might" actually be in it's final stages where things can be changed).
Nice to see it was a great time had by all!
Re: A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
While I didn't make the BG show, I did attend the Gathering in Atlanta in May. What impressed me about Scott was the fact he sat down with our small group from B'ham and talked f-bodies with us for about an hour and a half. That was the highlight of the trip! Scott if you read this, many thanks from the guys in the Ham. We still talk about that evening on our local board.
Re: A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
Jason.. I’m sorry I didn’t meet you at BG.. I’m too shy and we arrived late so I was busy trying to catch up on everything happening. The trip to the BBQ was awesome.. just something about 100 camaros all rolling together.. priceless… the feeling was incredible.
GuionM I agree.. if you haven’t met Scott make it a point to spend some time with him at an event.. be it a car show or a national auto show.. he knows his stuff and is a great person to hand around. He made an immediate impression on my cousin who came with me and was impressed that GM has someone who cares as much as him.
I expected a lot more cars to be there however the timing is a little difficult. (I could only get one day off from work) but I will be there for sure next year as well. In fact, going for this trip has made me want to attend the Texas State Fair to meet Scott again.. that alone should tell you how impressed I am with this man..
(hopefully he will let me start up his Z06)

Re: A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
I'd just like to echo what most have said so far in this thread... this was my 4th year in a row at this event and I wouldn't miss it for the world! We made it back to Toronto last night in 11 hrs. and 45 min., door-to-door (good thing it was on Sunday! - we do split the trip into 2 days on the way down taking a longer, more scenic route)
Had the opportunity to attend "the breakfast" at Jerry's last year ('cuz my car was hurt and couldn't play with it) but only had time to drop in and say "good morning" this year on my way out to Beech Bend for the AutoX (managed a 4th place finish out of 30 entries!
).
Great to say hi to Jason D., Doug H. again and I'd also like to thank everybody involved in putting this event on - this one was the best one so far AFAIC... and of course a HUGE thank you to you, Scott, for all that you do for us! (and more - Tom kept saying, "I don't believe it, I don't believe it!"! all night and on the way home yesterday, after you arranged for that licence plate!))
Looking forward to January in Detroit and B.G. again next September!
Best regardSS,
Elie

Re: A Couple Thoughts After Bowling Green...
Couple things...
1) A Z06 is a helluva site in person. I was able to sit in Scott's...wow. What an absolute treat. Also, I sat in the '06 TB SS Scott brought down...
That thing is evil as hell in person. My dad really missed the boat on this one, having bought his '05 LT back in the Spring. A 4x4 SS optioned like his will probably not cost a whole lot more!!
2) Personally, I'm glad they have it when they do. I was under the assumption they do it at that time to avoid all sorts of family vacations. I'm glad because KY is friggen hot, at least for me!! Actually, it isn't so much the heat as it is the humidity. The temps weren't much above what MA had for weather while I was gone...but the humidity is awful. The nights for the events were nice and cool, but I was cleaning the leather in the Z Wed night (which had been cleaned before I left, but hey, its white leather
), and I was sweating bullets at 6:00 at night!! And this is in September????
3) ced, I wish I had met you. Unfortunately, after all this time I've still only met Doug, poSSum, JasonD and Octane. I was one of the two 30ths at the BBQ, and most of the show for that matter (the other 30th was a beat one with chrome ZR1 wheels)...which car was yours?
I don't know yet if we'll be there next year or not. Its a long, long way, and I have the feeling Ashleigh can only deal with a bunch of gearheads on her vacation every other year
She had a lot of fun too, but cars are still a relatively new hobby for her. I give her credit for even wanting to go
Also, the Z has 61k on it now. I only put about 3k a year on it (I plan to keep it forever, and want to keep the mileage down on it), and this trip alone was 2,400 miles, putting me around 4,500 for the year. I've put 19k on it in 5 years of ownership, almost 5k of which has been the 2 BG events!! I think it needs to rest now
All in all, its a great trip. Not the cheapest (gas ranged from $2.99 for 93 in OH to $3.64 in NY), but worth every dollar spent and every minute traveled.

re: GM on the right track
My wife and I just saw the first Impala SS ad- and we both said "wow"! What a great looking car!! And she hates the Impala!!
Look at the new Caddys, Cobalt, Solstice/Sky, new Trailblazer SS, and Impala SS- GM is seeing the way through the dark- those are all GREAT looking cars- I have no doubt the "scenery" will be very fetching in Detroit in January.
I just want to know where i can see the first web pics! i.e. if the show opens at 8AM I want to be on my computer at 803 looking at pics!!

I had the dirty NBM Camaro... on Friday as we rolled straight into BG at 1:00
(it was raining driving up there and the car had bugs...)
On Sat. it was washed and ready... (I was wearing a Rockets cap with the red "R")... blue tank top SS from the vendor who showed up in the 35th...
