Did your buddy mention anything else that stood out about the car from what he saw... other than the headlights?

) I bet he would remember if there was a big chrome bar involved though.
Nope Tom he didn't mention what color it was, but I would guess it'd be red. All Corvettes Are Red, right?
I will be disappointed in the lack of pop-ups, but headlight design is not going to make or break the overall styling of the car. I just don't see it as something to get all worked up over.

I would think the best advice would be to reserve judgement until the car is unveiled. A Corvette is not defined solely by a headlight style. Try to count how many cars continue today with pop-up headlights.
You'll have to trust that the designers care as much about the car as the enthusiasts. Besides, when was the last time you were disappointed with a new Corvette? They have a pretty good track record.
...And if everyone just accepted what was already "fine and dandy," we'd never get anything new and exciting.

Not sure, but I think the C5 was debuted separately less than a year before production. If that holds true this time, I wouldn't expect the C6 to show up at this or next Auto Show season, but perhaps as a separate press introduction.

Yeah, I'll take back what I said about the car being in Chicago. It would probably ruin sales for the last year of the C5 like was mentioned. Just wishfull thinking I guess.

I really don’t care too much if the C6 has flip up lights or not. I realize the vette has had them since, what 1964? But like Z28Wilson said "headlight design is not going to make or break the overall styling of the car". Plus have any of you seen the Lingenfelter C5 body kit? It has stationary lights and doesn’t look all that bad. I think that body has a cool twist to the C5 and I wouldn’t mind seeing the C6 go in a direction like it.
Here is some pics of it.

I had kind of hoped the C6 would return to the C2-C3 styled quad-headlight theme, pop up style of course, maybe even w/ HID's installed. The C5's lights do look kind of lame, and at least the C4 had the cool 180 flip when it's lights go on and off. But I guess I'm one of those traditionalists who think pop up headlights are a Corvette mainstay...oh well
you know, the national 50th birthday party fot the vette will be in nashville(YESS!!!),gee, thousands upon thousands of vette nuts in one place, what a swell place to unveil a C6!maybe,i hope, probably not.as for fixed headlights, who cares,if it looks awesome, this argument will be over in 5 seconds,oh wait, what am i talking about,we're car people,we argue over the stupidest things.i guarantee, somewhere on the internet, someone is still defending square headlights on a wrangler or square taillights on a 2002 or air-cooled vs water-cooled or........

Does anyone realize that the 'Vette has had flip-lights for over 40 years straight?? Not only that, but they are just plain snazzy and cool, and they are what you expect on a 'Vette like it's a natural expectation. To eliminate them now would be to take the car into a whole new tangent and make it something it never asked to be. I remember another thread where people were complaining that in the "ON" position the headlights looked really doofy (and I agree; C4 & C5) but that's just a specific design they chose to go with at the time.. a temporarily bad decision such as that is not a reason to eliminate the lights alltogether now. I will be REALLY disappointed if I don't see flip-lights on the next 'Vette. Some things are just meant to be. Who gives those few designers the right to non-chalantly and haphazardly re-define a widely-liked mainstay that was just fine and dandy before they messed with it?? I demand we keep the flip-lights.

Get over pop up headlights, they were the newest thing in the eighties, their ugly when their up and it's easy to design a car with stationary lights that are just as aerodynamic. The mechanisms which control pop up lights are just one more thing that can break, malfunction or rattle and costs money to fix.

I think a composite headlight with a 'shutter' that slides over it would be new, modern, and keep with the Corvette theme.
Best of both worlds.

I seriously doubt the designed process could be described as haphazard and non-chalant. Chevrolet has too much riding on the Corvette nameplate to just do styling experiments *****-nilly and it's ridiculous to think so.

I wouldn't count out a Chicago debut either. Car companies do not wait until the last minute to debut a car. How are 04 mustang sales gonna be with the debut of the 05? Chevy will lose a few sales with 04's but if they can get the people who were thinking of getting another manufacturers 04 to wait, they will more than make up for it. Another factor is, with a new desighn, its more important to sell the new model. The current vette's tooling has already paid for itself and than some. Ever wonder how they can afford to spend 10's of millions of dollars to just develop the car? Its all figured into sales projections on that entire "generation", not just the model year. Getting as much hype, free publicity, etc for a new desighn is more important. We all know the styling is going to change for 05 , including possible 04 buyers.

The GTO is a different thing.
