We've been told that the Z28 won't return for about 18 months after the Camaro returns.

and

Camaro will get a version of the most powerful engine in GMs production line right now.

ok, pure speculation here...a "Z06" type Camaro (Z28 or something else, the name doesn't really matter) will be available about 18 months after the Camaro returns. Kinda like the time table for the Corvette.

/Speculation
Already been speculated for some time now.

If GM makes a 3500 lb. Camaro it will suck and not handle and not be true to the 1967 formula that dictated it be a Trans Am racer which will in turn mean that we are not getting a Camaro, but a straight-line only Mustang clone which will never sell because only Mustangs sell and who wants a copycat Mustang when retro's already been done; nevermind that a Camaro should cost half the price of a Corvette and weigh less and outperform it.

Get real. GM isn't listening to its heart: the enthusiasts.

And the styling sucks; I heard it was retro!

i think the fine print should have been a HUGE warning at the top of that post. very funny stuff!

Re: Comparaitive look at 5th gen's dimensions.

Why won't a 3,500lb car handle? I guess 4th gen F-Bodies sucked in the handling dept., I guess GTOs suck in the handling dept. too. Just because a car has weight doesn't mean its not going to handle. Look at the B-Body Impala SS and Caprice 9C1, for such a large and heavy cars they handle great. And I don't mean they will out slalom a Miata, but they will hold there own.

As far as the 5th gen. goes I will be happy with a GTO sized Camaro, and with a modern chassis and suspension it will handle very good.

Maby it does handle better, but when you hit a corner and your tires start screaming for mercy 10mph before your wifes FWD econobox would, it doesnt inspire much confidence.

The LS2 only weighs something around 250 lbs...the Solstice weighs around 2800 and the Corvette in the 3200 lbs region, there's no way the Ecotec 4 banger weights -150 lbs I guess maybe a stronger rear end and a couple other heavy duty components might bring the weight up a hundred lbs or so... How much does an Ecotec weigh?

I am pretty sure an LS2's dry weight is something like 375 lbs for the fully assembled longblock, sans accessories. I believe the LS2 is 15 or so lbs lighter than the LS1 as well. Someone chime in with some more accurate numbers, if mine are mistaken.

Adding an LS2 and a tranny that will deal with it like a t56, and a stronger rear-end, and beefer suspension components, is going to net a Solstice that weighs in almost as much as a Vette, with quite possibly a much worse weight distribution. You don't have to use the beefier stuff if you want to keep the weight down, but you will be doing plenty of repairs often.

Re: Comparaitive look at 5th gen's dimensions.

Compare this to:
4th gen Camaro: 194" X 74" X 51" and a loaded coupe weight of 3500#.
2005 Mustang: 188" X 74" X 55" weight.....3500#
Pontiac GTO: 189" X 73" X 55" weight....3725#
2004 Cobra: 183" X 73" X 53" weight.....3665#

The new Corvette Z06's inner structure weighs less than 150 pounds. Yet the Z06 weighs in a 3100 pounds
So-o-o-o, if the 5th gen is 500 lbs heavier than a "Z06" Corvette...people won't buy it, b/c it won't perform as well as a $60K specialty car....?
Do we want a $30K+/3200Lb Z28..???
Or an affordable($19K-25K )Pony car in the spirit of tradition?
Our cars never perform as well as we want them to..."out of the box"...that's why we have an "aftermarket"....true?
And we haven't even see preliminary performance data yet....

Hell freakin' yes!
Give my a hi-po $30k 3200lb 400-450hp z28.

Keep the 300-350hp 5.3L versions (SS?) at $25k

What's the problem with that?

Is $30k really that much? I mean we have $30-33k STI's, Evo's, GTO's, 350Z's. . .

If you want a car that handles well and has a nice interior with tight gaps inside and out, etc, I expect to pay $30-35k.

I remember when the CTS-v was coming out and people were hoping/expecting it to be ~$5k over a regular CTS.

Uhmmmm....not sure what 4th gen you've driven......or what tires or suspension work was done on it....or what your driving skill is......but I can assure you that the 2000-2002 SS with 1LE was marginally faster than a 2000 Corvette Z51 on the same road course.....further, I distinctly remember that a stock Z28 with RS-A tires was 4 seconds faster --on average -- around the 2.2 mile road course at Spring Mountain...(10 laps each)..than a Mustang GT...and that the SS (WITHOUT 1LE) on stock Eagle F1s was 12 seconds faster.............

That, my friend, is not too shabby. Moreover, I'll be pleased to show you how it will soundly thrash other 'performance' cars costing three times as much.

Keep in mind.......as I posted in another thread, that John Heinricy served as a Chief Engineer on the 4th gen (and 3rd, for that matter)
