Re: cobalt interior bogey

That 'woulda been' Saturn interior interior looks 'cooler' and more 'hip' than the new Corolla interior, but definitely not nicer, IMO.

I guess it depends on who you're marketing to. The practical buyer or the hip youngster crowd - and if it's the latter... Toyota is probably intending for the Scion to appeal to them, not the Corolla.

I love that Saturn interior, put that in the Cobalt and we have a winner. That Toyota interior....god awful. If thats where new interiors are headed....hell no, count me out. I like my good old plastics. I don't understand why it is everyone is so caught up in the interior. I don't sit there and feel up every panel of my car. I want an interior that looks decent, doesn't cost me an arm and a leg, and goes with the car. I guess I'm just not as picky as everyone else. From my 87 Cutlass Ciera to my 94 Sunbird and my many, many f-bodies, I've never sat there and thought "man the fit and finish of all these peices is awful."

Toyota can keep that interior to themselves....that Saturn one is a winner to me.

My $0.02

So, basically, you like the Saturn interior because it's not as nice, and since the car is an economy car, you don't want the interior to convince you otherwise?

So you do not care about interiors unless it is a GM one Not picky about interiors unless it is foreign. It is ok to come right out and admit it.

Re: cobalt interior bogey

I think what 94Camaro_Z_28 is trying to say is that the group of people buying the cobalt arnt gona put to much weight into the interior. The cobalt is an ecomomey car and is primary geared for commuters and college students. The intent should not be to wow people with gms amazing interiors in the cobalt but to rather amaze them with amazing reliability and great gas millage at an amazing price thats what gm should focus on improving with the cobalt. Instead of puting and intior in the car thats gona drive the price of the cobalt up they should focus on getting the price of the car down and getting millage and reliability up. If gm can get into college students head that gm=reliability then when they get into a career field there will most likely buy a higher up gm which is were gm should put there focus improving interior quality. Most college students arnt gona car greatly about the interior but more about the price and people buying these as commuter cars arnt gona put so much weight into them either you guys have to remember is that where enthuses not ever one cars about a cars interior as much as us.

How do you figure? We can't touch either so all we can tell from internet pics is which one looks nicer. Fake wood = nicer The 'woulda been' Saturn has has more style IMO, not that the Corola isn't a nice interior for a compact car, but it just look plain to me. Replace the wood with brushed aluminum and ad some colored leather and I'd probably like it alot better. I'd have to sit in both and maybe even drive the cars to tell which is truely nicer.

I'm curious to know what you see in the Corolla interior photo that makes it look nicer than the Ion interior photo. They're certainly designed with a different end effect in mind, but the appearance of quality, to me, is fairly equal.

What differences do you see that make the Corolla look nicer to you?

I get what you're saying but the interior quality HAS to be improved with the Cobalt. I should know, I have one. You're right for the most part since I'm a college student worried about gas mileage and needed a dependable car. Plus I couldnt really afford anything better anyway. My choice would have been a 6-speed G6 GTP coupe or an Impala SS. Either way, the Cobalt and other entry level cars are most people's first experience with a new/newer offering from an automaker. I'll tell you if I didnt know what I do about the auto industry and bleed Chevrolet I'd probably just want to take my Cobalt back to the dealer and tell them to shove it. I love the car, it drives great, gets decent mileage but the interior is so cheap in some areas its pathetic. Surfaces are wearing that shouldnt, the console marks/scratches easily, my weather stripping is peeling up slightly on the pass side door (off the lot I might add!). Things like that arent acceptable on an $18000 car. Not even on the base models at $13000. I've also talked to a select few others with defective or issue ravaged Cobalts. If I didnt have these problems, I'd consider buying the car after my lease is up. I do take care of it, its just a commuter to me but I cant say I'd keep it with a straight face. GM is slowly coming around, but not so much on their entry level offerings. I just dont see what's so hard designing an attractive interior that doesnt show 8 years of wear after only one.

I agree, that "could've been" interior is on par with the Masdz 3's interior, which IMO is the best 'youth car' design out there at the moment.

well i think they should improve over all build quality of the car if parts are cracking or falling of the car there is deffinetly a problem and gm should fix that.

im not saying your not having problems but i know 3 people whith cobalts and they all love them. the one has 22,000 miles on his ss and the shifting patter fell of his shifter and the other 2 have around 20,000 to and there pretty much bare models and they havnt had 2 many complaints either. i my freind let me the ss and i though it was fairly decent i plan on buying a regular cobalt in the spring.

I'm a dash stroker, Jake.

I have 'stroked' so many dashes that I can typically just look at the shape, edges, reflection, and so on (even with all the photographer-added artificial lighting and touchups) and just tell roughly what it's going to feel/sound/act like in person.

Not always accurate - accurate enough.

Re: cobalt interior bogey

What is it about the Cororra interior that makes it so "nice?" Other than Navi screen I mean.

It has a mismatched and dated color and texture to the wood grain and other than that looks predictable for newer cars. Predictable center stack, nothing doing on the passenger side, and otherwise.... nothing really.

Im just (still) curious as to how one can look at those 2 layouts and determine the first to be better than the second. The Saturn interior has more contrast to me anyway.

Okay, I guess I can see that the seat material and center console storage bin lid look a bit less pleasant to touch on the Ion interior, compared to the Corolla.

I had been focusing on the dash, though, and those look about equal to me. Do you see differences there too?
